To artists using Patreon, be careful.

"Wilson Indefinite Hiatus/New Comic
Posted Feb 22, 2024 ...
I’ve got some unfortunate news today. I’m sure you all probably guessed that my Patreon got deleted for incest art. I’ve been told that I can potentially rejoin the platform in two months, but I have to do so with a whole new project. The incest art that I got banned for was from the pinups I did for the higher-tier patrons, not the comic itself, but Patreon doesn’t seem to care. If I rejoin Patreon, I can’t continue Wilson on their platform.

I can’t really complain. I broke the rules. I thought I could get away with it because I only posted censored previews to Patreon and nothing explicit, but I was wrong. If nothing else, I hope any other creators reading this will learn from my mistake: Patreon will shut you down with no warning, so be careful. ..."

and did search of flayrah for "Patreon" and found:
https://www.flayrah.com/9033/newsbytes-archive-november-2023
which includes
"... Patreon shuts down award-winning furry artist's decade-old account for 'sexualising minors' in a push against AB/DL content. ..."
which links to
1) blog post by BabyStar (I didn't look at the Patreon, I'm guessing either AB and/or some other ageplay art)
2) https://www.adisc.org/forum/threads/many-abdl-creators-artists-have-just-had-their-accounts-shut-down-on-patreon.180493/
(skimmed the first page of the adisc forum thread and the only example given seems to be "parkerlongabaugh" ... so a disappointing lack of specific examples)

Well gosh diddly dang, Dood!
In other words, Crap!

Treating ABDL like that just shows a fundamental misunderstanding of
the interest. I only have a cursory understanding myself and even I
understand that ABDL isn't at All about being into kids but being
treated like one. Geez, it's like saying furries are into actual animals.

And didn't think drawing two characters that look alike would warrant
a complete deletion. Not permanent but still super extreme when a
warning would have done well.

Thanks for the PSA, I'll be more careful, Dood =P

Patreon is well-known for knee-jerk reactions and a lack of finesse, such that it's generally accepted that drawing anime-style puts you at an inherent risk of being deleted for "underage" content. Patreon is also well-known for targetting users for content not even linked to Patreon in any way, shape, or form, and where Patreon is not mentioned.

Subscribestar exists for a reason.

Subscribestar has been the refuge for the creators from the previous ban wave (which, for the record, didn't seem to be for any rule actually listed in Patreon's TOS). I'd recommend diversifying, both to creators and to consumers. Be ready to use multiple of these platforms.

Let this be a reminder of just how important sites like e6 are. AND how important it is to have backups of EVERYTHING you make.

Preferably at least 2 cloud backups, and 1 offline backup.

I'm going to assume they had the source files on their computers from when they uploaded it, but the real horror is losing all the organization and interactions (comments).

I'd say the real horror for the artists is the loss of income, how many of your former customers are going to find out your Patreon was suspended and locate your Subscribestar and then pledge their money again?

It's honestly scary how easy it is to rip people's livelihood away from them when using services like these, a traditional employer would actually have to give notice, provide severance, etc. Patreon just throws you out in the dirt and tells you to go fuck yourself.

Ha, that's a good joke. A lot of US states have at will employment, which means you can be fired at any time for any reason, or no reason at all (with the same in reverse).
Before anyone gets on me about it, yes I know there are exceptions, and yes I know the US is not the entire world. I'm speaking from personal experience, I have been outright fired for no reason with no route for recourse.

Welcome to Paypal-Mastercard dictating guidelines, lest they eject platforms from the near-monopoly they have on online payment processing. Patreon didn't care about 90% of the shit they do now until Paypal got on their asses.

Update: https://towan-games-studio.itch.io/gomamon-trainer/devlog/693481/patreon-is-down

This seems to be part of a wave of "underage" purging... in this case for content not even on Patreon, so I have to wonder how many people got nuked this time around.
