Actually I was planning on this upgrade anyway blaz. it just seems nice to say "YOU ASSHOLES ARE THE REASON WE DID THIS"

The problem is that I don't really disagree with them. We DO get a ton of MLP content every day. It doesn't bother me personally that much, but I can completely understand why it's such an issue to people that don't want to see MLP at all, so that's why we're going to address it by improving the site, rather than diminishing content.

I think most of the problem is outlined here. It's not that there's a TON of it, even though pokemon has far more- it's the volume -per day-. If you're not like me and search specific tags instead of just looking at the recent arrivals, I can see how that'd be vexing.
On the other hand, this change is something that I do agree is something that was wrong with the system and needed to be fixed, and it's nice to see it happen, eevn i it's being put forward in an attemtp to mollify stupid and lazy users. :P

I'm interested, was this as resource-hogging as it was said it would be? I recall that the old one used javascript or something to simply hide the images on the client's end, and that doing it server-side would be too much load.
I don't want to not see MLP, I like the abstract comics and pictures, also the ones completely demeaning it, but if I blacklist it, I won't see anything.
It's the freakin' memes copypastad directly from 4chan that bugs me.

The blacklist feature has not been overhauled yet. But yes, we're still trying to avoid having to do any blacklist processing server-side, and we think we have a solution. Aurali can go into more detail about it for you if she wants, since she's the one writing the code.

i really dont have a problem with my little pony.
its a good little group of artist who likes pony and blows u stuff with pixey dust and all that good stuff.
Now the problem i have is when it swarms the shit out of the dragon tag and in most of them spike isnt even in them. Thats my problem with my little pony. or just do the most simplest thing ever, give it its own tag and people will be happy.

Cool story, mods. This is a reasonable way to deal with it, and is definitely a lot more thought out than both of the standard 'screw it' options~.

Most would have simply banned the content and been done with it. There's
also the fact that your actions promote tolerance and avoid singling out a
dedicated and focused fanbase.
Those who don't like the show need to stop bashing on those who do.
Just think about it for a second, you're on an adult site specializing in anthropomorphized animals and you're making fun of people
that enjoy MLP? However, I can completely understand those who are sick
of seeing a constant flood of MLP content being uploaded. I think an
upgrade to the black list system will definitely help stop the whining.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you have to put your ragey comments in it, why can't you simply just ignore the picture? Oh wait, you haven't hit maturity yet, never mind.
I've been using -mlp in my searches both logged in and not. Seems to filter out my little pony content just fine. Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, but as far not being in a pony mood or simply not a fan of my little pony, it works.
Again, to filter out my little pony content add this to your search:
-mlp
This should help until the blacklist function gets updated to save us the huge hassle of typing 4 characters in the search box. ;)
My main question is 'why?' For a primarily furry porn site why has so much clean mlp stuff popped up lately? I find it mildly amusing but I question why people have decided that this is the place for it.

I just thought of this additional blacklist+popular functionality when I was reading the news header and BLAM! You know what the people need!
Even while I'm not critically against MLP (I however dislike "hay I drawz in MLP style 'cos it's simple" in the top), that's really just a perfect excuse to upgrade the imageboard a little ^___^
While we are in a whining thread... can those MLP uploaders start tagging their artists better ?
I was able to find artists many MLP pics i checked that had no artist or were tagged unknown_artist, with minimal research, and i'm totally ignorant on that serie.
Stop copy pasting ponybooru or the -chans, and get to work, people.
I only login to blacklist MLP ^^

How about a page jumping feature as well? I know I can have trouble looking through the larger tags like cub when I can only move two pages at a time.

Well it is human nature that for anything that someone would like, another one wont like it, and it is normal and completely acceptable, it is when one of the parties starts to try and force their will on the other one that comes the issue, some might think its for porn, some might think its for art, but the real thing, is that its for both, Like Princess Celestia said, it is an image Archive for all things considered furry.
I believe this is a great solution towards the existing problem, and i am really happy about it and i thank you personaly, cause both parties get what they wish and none gets to be left out, so people can enjoy their pictures either they are ponies or nor either they are porn or not, now i believe most will enjoy their art without a problem, but what i am afraid from are the ones that will not like this proposition and will try to enforce what they want.
As soon as the Black list goes up, im putting MLP in as soon as posible. SRLY! it friken anyoing!

That was a great change. I really like the idea, so blacklists work more efficently now, for those who blacklist other things like scat. And i hope people will finally just stop bitching, because they are too lazy to blacklist things. Now they have no excuse not to do it! It just pushes all my buttons. But this decision was good for both parts. So thumps up from me, and continue the good work!

The final word on My Little Pony

We're well aware of the issue with the amount of My Little Pony content that has been flooding the site a bit for the past several months. And we're also well aware that simply blacklisting my_little_pony causes problems browsing the site normally. Believe me, we don't like it either.
People seem to think that the simple answer is just "don't allow My Little Pony anymore". And they're right, that would be the simple answer. However, I, and the e621 team, are not lazy admins. We don't want a simple answer that greatly reduces the amount of (perfectly legitimate) content the site receives. We don't want to point the finger at some of our most dedicated uploaders and tell them "You are TOO dedicated to continue posting the content to this site that you want to share, so you may no longer post any of it at all." That is not fair to them, and it's not fair to great number of people that do enjoy seeing so much My Little Pony on e621. Therefore, we need a better answer.
The better answer is in the works, and comes in the form of two major advancements in site functionality: 1) ALL e621 users will be able to make use of the blacklist, even those without accounts, and 2) The way the site handles blacklisted pictures for users is being completely overhauled, so that you will no longer have empty or nearly-empty pages. Every page will be completely full of art, no matter what you've got blacklisted (unless you blacklist everything, I suppose).
All that this issue with My Little Pony has done is underline a critical area of site functionality that needs to be improved. It is nothing but the site failing to provide you with the experience that you were looking for. Therefore, we will make the site better, and currently plan to do so as mentioned above. But the one answer that we will absolutely not implement, as long as I'm e621's lead admin, is to ban specific content simply because we get too much of it. That is the lazy and destructive way out, and that is not how I'm going to run this site.
