How about we just start banning people from now on who insist on being pricks over a type of content being uploaded?
It's called blacklist or die <3
I guess if people wanted to see MLP they'd check out ponibooru or sumthin. And then they feel like they want to share with e621...

Has this been a problem at any point? I've never seen anyone complaining about a lack of MLP in any serious fashion.

That's true of every art style and fetish on the board, but it would rather defeat the point of an art archive.

It's an "art archive" now? Never knew this place was so high brow. Maybe I should be wearing a tophat and monocle while I peruse the myriad pictures of horsedongs and pokemon having sex.
You can call this place whatever you want, but it doesn't change the fact that most of us come here for a certain kind of art in particular, and it isn't Rembrandt or Monet.
At least the site isn't being infested with a certain underaged "baby" obsessed auto-tuning Canadian. And even if e621 was filled with all things Bieber, I'd blacklist and move the fuck on. Stop complaining like a bunch of children...seriously, you're embarassing yourselves and are taking a site inhabited by 90% furry porn WAY too seriously. To poke fun of someone who may post a lot of MLP like they need a life...what does that say about you and your need for furry porn?
Because of e621, I discovered pony on a pure whim. (it was a funny Derpy comic for anyone who is curious) Ever since, I discovered a cool community that isn't all crazy disfunctional like the furry fandom is. Yes, I stated the obvious. ;P I will admit that the way the staff is handling puts them outside the vocal minority. For that, much respect.
Wait...did I discover the secret? Stop making everything self-centered around you. Learn to enjoy the fun things in life and not what you're gonna fap to today. And if you're really artistic, why don't you make a series that'll get popular instead of complaining about one. This isn't a one way street. Those posting pony meme type pics on a site that IS a majority adult site is really inconsiderate on your end. That is very unbrony like. For the lol type pics, take it to Ponibooru or any other MLP *chan.
you just have to improve the site rederlo a bit faster in the visualization of images and if you want to put any kind of art but also put it say only one thing you just have to trust yourself not inport the criticism of others does not give him reason qundi improve the site and not be deterred by such a thing Then we go do your work and continue to maintain this site available so you can be proud of what you have created

Words of wisdom, everypony :P Listen to this person.
Semi-related to the topic at hand: the Edit Account page doesn't seem to be updating properly. I wanted to change my comment threshold to -3 (to prevent the downvote spammers from hiding legitimate comments) but I get a blank page when I hit "save," after which going back into the Edit Account page shows all my settings haven't changed. Since this is also how people update their blacklists, I thought you guys should know.
But back on the topic at hand, I currently only have "my_little_pony rating:e" as a line in my blacklist (because I don't mind the regular art) and I'm fascinated by how little explicit MLP content there is compared to safe content.

hey, hey, Go log back into your non-sock-puppet account, and add

to your blacklist. no more "rembrandt" and "monet" standing between you and your cartoon horse cock and tardis-like pussies.
I am wonderfully pleased with this response to the issue. After seeing so many others respond to this type of situation with one extreme or another, I actually did not expect such an open-minded solution. I personally am a huge MLP fan and although I hate the complainers (whom, for some reason, can't choke down a flood of unwanted content as I have in the past), I can still empathize with their feelings. Although it's likely that some will stil not like this solution, I think this is an acceptable compromise for everyone.
I love this site!

You don't pay much attention to the fanbase then. Bronies don't go onto a picture that's completely unrelated and post "these aren't ponies, this is duuuuumb ololol." Fans *do* get upset when people who hate MLP comment on a piece to intentionally be a jackass.
You should show everyone an example of what you're saying is true ;)
I can't believe how far these people are taking it just ignore it and move. On whit your lives and stop hating on MLP

Why are people upset about MLP but not upset about other uploads that are rated safe or questionable? There's plenty of non-porn content that the community enjoys. We don't all come here to beat the meat. You can also blacklist things that are rated at anything less than sexy.

Not likely, no one should be that dedicated to image posting. Some of us have jobs/the need to see sunlight every so often (gotta get dat vitamin D). What would it hurt to stem the tide a little and give these guys a chance to upload to some actual MLP fansites?
E621 is a furry image site. MLP stands for My Little Pony. Ponies are equestrian. Anthropomorphic horses qualify as furry. It is completely legitimate to post MLP things to a furry site that hosts both safe and explicit art. Other furry art still outweighs MLP art, but it'd be nice if people were as dedicated as bronies.
I personally don't like avian art. I don't like seeing it, but I don't think it should go away to its own fansite, I just need to ignore it when I see it in a thumbnail.

e621 is how I found out about MLP too! I watched the first episode out of curiosity once I saw the Derpy meme (who wouldn't want to watch a show where a pony with crossed eyes is dubbed Derpy by its fans) and became a full-fledged brony :3 Thank you e621!

But i respect your policy about all art. Just dont forget; you respect them but they mostly not...
Whoa, hey now. "We" don't respect other users? No, we get disrespected. I've always, always been polite to the others, I upload my stuff early to keep it out of the main user-bases way {Since for me the average "heavy influx of users" is about 3-9PM} And for the most part, I TELL the admins when I am going to do a large amount of uploading. And most of the other up-loaders here are quite respectful.
Yes I like MLP, Yes I upload MLP, because I leave the furry stuff to Ipiki and Queue, their much more adept at Finding it then I am, and much better at avoiding reposts of furry content. {Save cheetahs, because I freaking LOVE cheetahs}. You know "Why" I don't upload porn of Ponies? Because I have almost no interest in horses in that manner, I like a Lot of the other content on this site, save for two or three fetishes which creep the hell out of me.
TL:DR: Most of us pony uploaders have spare names, most of us do upload furry art and other art as well, most of us DO like other content. Don't just assume things like that.
why not be sneaky and give people an option to automatically put -mlp in their searches? they can view the site normally and have the illusion there's no ponies.

This is actually a feature we've been discussing, but it'd really be better for the server if we could improve the functionality of the blacklist instead so all blacklist processing still occurs client-side. Plus, having to specify "-my_little_pony" in a search means they have 1 less tag that they can use before hitting the maximum amount of tags they're allowed to search for in a single query.
Well at least this should quiet down the debate.
I don't care much for the pony thing either way, I just ignore rather than blacklist. I think one of the reasons people have been so vocal about it is that while MLP content volume might be low now, anyone can see that there is no end to the image macros and memes and screencaps and so on and so forth being generated elsewhere. It seemed inevitable that this would all continue to be dumped into e621, and eventually that low volume would become much higher and harder to ignore, with moderators unable to keep up and enforce quality control.
Recall the Ruto flood which garnered the ire of many users; the response from moderators was appropriate because it obviously couldn't carry on forever, so there was no real need for people to get as upset as they were. Furthermore, it was art being posted, even if some of it was low quality. Unlike that scenario, however, anyone can see that MLP content is going to carry on for much, much longer, so that's why I think the nature of this debate is fundamentally different. Ultimately, with the new blacklist functionality there's no excuse for people who just don't want to see anything MLP-related, but as other users have mentioned, there's a clear line between the endless memes/screencaps/etc. and actual art. There's no real means of filtering it at that level of granularity, so the improved blacklist still isn't going to ultimately resolve the issue.
I certainly understand that moderators have been making an effort to enforce some level of quality control on the MLP uploads, and it's not really up to the users to decide what those standards should be, but the moderators' standards are not explicitly listed anywhere and have proven to be rather inconsistent from moderator to moderator. Furthermore, these standards seem to be inconsistent with the standards used to handle other content on this site. I'm not going to accuse moderators of approving "low quality" MLP content while disapproving better quality non-MLP content since those terms are subjective, but it certainly seems like those approval thresholds are different. When posters are just taking the latest MLP image macro from the latest 4chan thread and throwing it here, it's understandable why many users are loathe to consider that worthwhile content and want to see it removed. When the response to this is "blacklist or die" and to squash forum discussions and inject personal views under what should be a professional capacity, it just makes it seem like certain moderators are being biased and determining what is an acceptable post based on whether the image is MLP or not. Whether or not this is actually true is beside the point; if there actually is a standard, many users seem to not know what it is and who if anyone is following it. If there is no standard, well then you can't really complain when users get upset about unfairness. In either case it just makes the entire staff look like they have no control or don't care much about what users think, and if this is untrue, then better efforts need to be made to reach users and say, "This is our quality standard, we will enforce it and hold our moderators to it, and if they don't, you can call them out on it and we will correct the issue."
So I think another improvement this site could use is better transparency and impartiality about policies. More threads like this one, decisive feedback from those in charge, and a solid gauge by which to measure moderators' performance. Users need to be able to call out moderators for bias or poor performance (maturely, of course) without fearing retaliation in the form of hostile responses and negative records for "inciting drama," even if we turn out to be wrong, because otherwise it seems like we have no recourse under any circumstances and only breeds further drama and hostility.
If any of what I'm saying sounds wrong or misinformed, it's simply because whatever is "correct" is not being made clear enough, and surely I'm not the only user who is failing to receive the proper signals. The MLP debate has called into question more than just the functionality of the site, so I hope the discussion won't end here and will be taken seriously.
If there's anything to be suggested for the blacklist's capabilities, it's this:
I noticed that whenever I've blacklisted anything (could be "death", or "hyper_cock", or something trivial like "my_little_pony"), comments about said blacklisted item still show up.
I don't know about anyone else, but seeing the "blacklisted" pic next to a slue of comments related to it or about it is like a series of scabs; they're there and I don't wanna know it's there.
Actually there's another blacklist idea I'd like to suggest:
I got the idea from a dialog between a few users' comments on a picture that they found offensive (I didn't mind it). The comment roughly stated/asked about blacklisting uploads from certain users.
Honestly, this idea sounded/sounds rather good, and has merit to it!
Is there anyone else that agrees/disagrees/whatever?
its going soo long....
I am surprised that there is so few adult material (maybe non) about this mlp even its so famous. I love horses and some sexual material about MLP can change the ideas of anti MLP ppl.
We need uploaders and artists for this urgently! If you are looking for some art at this kind of galery website, you should have a dark side for sure (I dont think all MLP fans here just show fans who are 7-10 years old).
So they can make peace between lovers and haters.. i didnt watch and probably wont watch it but there should be some big evil draft type male ponies at that world... isnt it? (if not, they need to add them..)
Great solution!
I really don't mind all the MLP stuff here...though it does kinda bug me when there are 3-5 pages of just MLP and some of the quality of the MLP stuff is sometimes really low...just my ten cents though.

There can be no peace "between lovers and haters" because the haters don't really hate the cartoon, they hate the sort of people who upload 20+ MLP pictures a day and can't stop talking about how fluttershy is their waifu. Do you think even more MLP is going to help?

Why can't you just ignore them? You don't have to see comments about Bronies creaming their pants over Rarity's ass if you don't want to. And if it's really the fans you hate, you need to remember that the fans didn't come to the site explicitly to spam an already established community, these are our members who have adopted a new interest.
I am curious as to what some members here think classifies as a "Meme" and what doesn't. As I haven't uploaded any memetic stuff in a long ass time. And 99% of the meme's {Save for one off pictures, one time things or a template base to use elsewhere, and if their rather amusing} tend to get deleted on the same day.
