Hey guys, regardless of what you may have seen proposed in the News recently, our Tag What You See rule is still unchanged from this here. Remember, the only recent change was to allow using external information for tagging character NAMES only, NOT gender or virtually anything else. PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE RULE! Thanks! :)

An attempt at a non-standing posture, using a reference from a Shiuk picture.

Shameless trace.

No.

Breaking down your comment:

Trace: No, this isn't traced at all. First, there's the fact that I only used the Shiuk picture as a reference, like I stated. Second, there's the fact that the proportions are not right, unlike the Shiuk picture.

Shameless: What about this implies I have no shame?

Even if you're working from a reference you still have to construct the body anatomically. Sketch the basic skeletal structure to get the pose and posture of the character, layer muscles on top of that to define the form of the body, then finally smooth out the lines and define its surface. Just copying lines doesn't help very much when it comes to figure drawing. Admittedly, it will help to some extent with line quality but I'm assuming you want to improve on more than that.

Also, go draw people from life and look into some good anatomy books. Study up on human anatomy first, /then/ learn how to apply it to animals.

Reference != Trace

What I've been doing so far is practicing with basic figure drawing and then applying more detail over that. Start with simple shapes and work my way up. I only used the Shiuk picture as a pose reference, much like someone drawing from a picture of someone in real life.

I've been getting better at it, I just haven't had a chance to upload more of my stuff yet.

I suggest uploading the sketches as well as the finished pieces. Getting a look at how you construct figures gives us a better idea of how skilled you are right now and what you need to improve on.

I've been uploading sketches to my regular art sites, like Fur Affinity and Inkbunny. My plan so far was to only upload full pictures to this site due to the fact that I've seen only a small handful of things here that are incomplete pictures.

Also, thanks for your constructive criticism. It's very helpful.
