Aren't their hooves like nails, meaning they can't feel anything there? I thought that was why horses could wear horseshoes without complaining.

There's two parts in a hoof, but since i'm not English, i cannot say you the right anatomical terms in your language

According to the great and powerful Wikipedia that part is called the "frog". Looks like it could be ticklish, if it is that vital to the circulatory system of the horse.

they aren't standard horses you find on earth... they don't even have the visible black nails and they can hold objects with their hoof.

the entire hoof might be fleshy, which might be why they have developed shoes, as seen in a few episodes.... which brings back memories of Applejack and Rainbow Dash playing horse shoes...
