tag group:background

Every image has a background. "Background" should never be used as a tag. There is no such thing as not having a background. Even the lack of background warrants a tag.
Flat-color/ Plain Backgrounds
Images with a "flat" color background use the plain background tag. The background may be one color, many variations of the same color, or a few colors... the 'important part' is that they do not suggest any sort of location outside of, perhaps 'the floor'. Plain background is a 'meta tag' to describe these simple backgrounds. Tags that make up plain_background are:
- Black background
- Blue background
- Brown background
- Grey background
- Green background
- Orange background
- Pink background
- Purple background
- Red background
- White background
- Yellow background
- Rainbow background - Made up of multiple colors
- Transparent background - For images with an Alpha channel background
Illustrated Background Tags
There are 3 tags used to describe images with an illustrated or rendered background:
- Detailed background - Images with a good amount of detail in the surrounding area, enough that the character is firmly established as existing in a place with a world around them. Most pictures with an illustrated background will fall in this category.
- Undetailed background - Pictures with enough detail to establish a location, but not much else.
- Amazing background - For images where the background is almost as interesting to look at as the character. Vivid, detailed, images where the artist clearly spent as much time, if not far more working on the background then the characters in the image. Basically, the cream of the crop. Use with discretion.
"Abstract" Background Types:
- Blowup background - Images where a zoomed portion of the main image is used to act in part as the background.
- Photo background - Images with a photo as the background. Usually a real one.
The following three are rarely tagged on images, and used to describe an image where the gradient, pattern, or texture is very clearly visible. Additionally, any appropriate color tags from above are used.

Also of note
- invalid_background - If this tag is on an image, the image was tagged with a tag that was previously determined to be unsuitable, and should have the tag removed and replaced with a more suitable background one.
