Similar to Alien (franchise), started with a movie by the same name and has since spanned second movie, comics, novels and so forth.
Although the movies didn't give much info on the predators, the expanded universe from the other products gives plenty of info which may or may not be considered canon.
The franchise's lead aliens are the Yautja (alternatively "Hish"), given in the expanded universe. A species most well known for its hunters, while the rest is left largely in the dark.
