Do you know the term "phatic language"? It doesn't really matter what you say, exactly. The point is just to acknowledge the gesture with respect.

I have a hard time comprehending why anybody likes what I do or make. Not that I'm trying to actively prevent people from liking something, I just wish I could feel I deserve praise, but I don't.
