Former, generally. As far as I'm aware, words like E621 and AK47 usually get pronounced with long vowels and long consonants. "Long" means the pronunciation is longer, and also similar to their name: "A" is エイ instead of ア, "E" is イー instead of エ, and "K" is ケー instead of ク or キ. That said, 「エシックス」 would totally make sense if we were talking about, like, a Square Enix character.
