Pixiv's recommendations based on favorites (presumably garnered from people who have similar favorites to yours) has been invaluable when it comes to discovering artists.

@VariableY: Twitter is ok. Just socialize, tweet and retweet things you like and or art. Comment on other artist work and follow them. Eventually you'll expand your follower base.

@VariableY: also just utilizing the tag search feature on E6 to find things I like as well. Right now basic users can only search up to 4 tags at a time. On the new site, we'll be able to search up to 40 tags!

@VariableY: no actually. Pixiv has a feature where I favorite something then the recommendeds cater to what I like. Featuring things from various artists. Oftentimes the artist mentions other places where they can be found. (Often it is twitter)
