While the modern horse only has one toe, it's ancestors had several. Like the Hypohippus, which had 3 toes.

What did they (or their feet) look like? well, it's a good question. Of course we don't know--they havn't been around in a few million years, but there are some critters that are somewhat related that are skill alive. :)

Odd toed Ungulates are an order of mammals that has, well, an odd number of toes and relatively simple stomachs (at least, compared to their even-toed relatives)... This order has three families kicking around today: Equidae (Horses, asses and zebras), Rhinos aaand...... tapirs! (okay, Tapirs too cute. have several pictures: X X X X

Even Toed Ungulates, on the other hoof, have a lot more members in their family these days... Featuring Pigs, hippos, camels, deer, giraffes, antelope, goats, and, of course, cows.

A collection of cruelty free, generally SFW pictures:

Pig Feets ~ Another pig with feet ~ Guess what? Pig Feet!
A SFW Camel Toe ~ Llama toes ~ An Alpaca, because Alpaca.
Have a Giraffe ~ Goat feets! ~ This is someone's fetish
Sorry, here is my apology ~ Still Sorry. ~ This is still an apology, but it also has Hippo-toes

Huh, that's interesting to know.
