Topic: cosplay, human, and deletions

Posted under General

With images of human subjects being summarily deleted under the recent rule updates, I am wondering about cosplay images
(not that I have a swath of them to upload; I am simply curious).

An example:

While the subject herself is human, the cosplay is a (pretty good) rendition of the twili species from the_legend_of_zelda video game franchise, so the subject matter is not 'human', per se.

What are your thoughts on cosplay vs. human, and what do The Powers That Be have to say on the matter?

(this is more about cosplay than a discussion about fursuiting, as many subjects of cosplay are not anthro in nature)

Last I heard we weren't deleting old human images which were already approved... did I miss something? D:

But for displaying humans, I don't see why they'd be disallowed if its somewhat furry related. It's still a form of art

No, I have not seen archived images with solely human content being removed, only new human posts are being deleted upon upload.

A few of the first posts that I uploaded were real. They were deleted. And even though I thought they would work on this website, they didn't.

I've learned from that and have kept that in mind with what I've been uploading since.

I am wondering if non-human (but also non-anthro) cosplay still constitutes 'human' in they eyes of admin(s) who delete human images.

My guess is that not_furry images were already considered borderline before the new rule, so it is even moreso now; just looking for official word.

The question about cosplay (fake ears/tail etc. NOT animal_ears or kemonomininninjamini) was asked in the Humans and e621 thread but not answered. Not sure if Princess Peach's species is even tagged correctly in that image.

(My post in more in regard to drawn images.)

The approval of humans in costumes seems inconsistent.

At first I thought maybe there had to be some sort of blatant indication of the costume being of an animal (ears, tail), but something like post #616144 gets approved while post #701289 (source) is considered irrelevant. Meanwhile, post #714223 gets approved just for the animal ears hoodie.

I find the inconsistency of ruling to be rather disappointing. Sometimes it seems to depends on which admin rules on an image first. But it's not only between different admins, but by a single one. Both post #616144 and post #714223 were approved/denied by NotMeNotYou. Baffling, considering both are of humans dressing as flora fauna Pokémon.

Though I do I understand that in the five months between those posts, the site rules might have changed-- as Tokaido and Sharp Coyote addressed above. Because there are a couple of human-only images by the same artist that were approved 1-2 years ago. And that raises the question "if those were approved, why not post #701289?". Rules change, and either other images by Terufuu (among others) receive amnesty for being approved before the rules changed, or they have not yet been discovered and removed duo to ex post facto effect.

More like the examples below, as in not_furry or human + real.

I'd guess these were kept back in the day, due their respective sexiness; would face almost certain deletion now.

Leaning towards likely deletion for ones like these MLP cosplayers, were they uploaded now. While the content and quality are good in both, still likely not_furry enough to make the cut; with humanized artwork mostly on the chopping block, so goes they cosplay?

Then there is this guy ... obviously human, totally epic, and I hope enough 'furry content' to stay; more closely related to fursuit than to cosplay.

Lastly, I give you team_rocket.

Excellent quality, yet all human, with a realistic-looking meowth plushie.

This one, I'd wager at least one admin would delete on sight, a couple might give it an initial pass, and may even be good enough to warrant requesting a vote upwards. Then again, who the hell knows.

We're blasting off again ?!?
