Topic: Posting limit affected by removal of 'inferior quality' version of images?

Posted under General

I've got 38 deletions, the vast majority of them being due to upgrades to superior qualities.

191 posts, out of 38 deleted, I can only upload 18 images?

It's kind of restraining to have my upload rate affected because of 'inferior versions' in it's vast majority, and artist requested takedowns which might have affected a lot of people due to the influx of art takedowns from prominent artists that used to be in this site.

I guess there's nothing I can do but point that out.

every single deleted post affects on your upload limit. if you want to avoid your uploads getting removed for being inferior, then upload the best available version.

Sometimes I can't find it, and sometimes I don't know their sources. So it's kind of hard to avoid that.

Like I said, it's not my fault that happens lol.

If you actually drop to a point you can't upload (<= 0), you can ask politely for your limit to be raised by administration. But as long as your limit remains above 0 they generally aren't going to do anything.

18 isn't a horrible limit to have, and taking more care to make sure you're grabbing best source available will help it grow fairly quickly.

but your upload limit is 8 above default. why you are even worrying. also do you realize that your upload limit is the amount of unapproved images you can have at time? so if you upload 18 images, your upload limit goes to zero. when the posts are approved, it goes back to 18.

Well technically after having 18 get approved it'd go to 19-20 depending on what fraction of 10 you were previously at... See, rapid increase possible!

As a general rule, mods are more willing to modify your upload limit if:

  • The reason for the deletions is because you re-uploaded better copies of your own uploads.
  • The reason for the deletions is a takedown which was out of your control (i.e., you didn't cause/exacerbate it).
  • Your account is in good standing (admins are less likely to modify upload limit if we don't think you are going to be around for long anyways)
  • You have a history of good uploading and solid tagging
  • You don't have any records along the lines of "you were told not do something again, but did it again anyways"
  • You are polite when you ask (text walls will delay responses a lot, avoid those whenever possible)

Disclaimer: This is all unofficial. These are just my own suggestions from personal experience. I guarantee nothing.

Edit: If you have over 10, we probably won't do anything to your upload limit one way or the other.

If you're worried about your upload limit, there's a very simple thing you can do to raise it:
Upload better versions of existing posts!
We have a tag for them: better_version_at_source

Of course, if you upload a better version, there's no guarantee that it'll stay.
The artist might still decide to issue a takedown request for all of their art.
But a bvas is much more likely to stay than the average post (if the smaller version has already been approved).

I wrote this Firefox add-on that helps you upload bigger versions:
