Topic: I wanted to report an issue with the view counter

Posted under General

Especially given that there's now a bug feedback thread and with the recent update, I posted a comment hoping to hear about the issues regarding view counter https://e621.net/forum/show/181712

So naturally I reported the issue and was curious as to whether or not it'll be fixed. Well, I don't know if people aren't seeing my posts or not, but at least some insight would be nice on its current status. Is that such a bad thing to ask? To ask a simple question on whether or not this issue will be fixed at some point? I feel like I'm being ignored in that thread, that's all, and why have a thread if people never reply to what's being asked, right? -_-

im p sure that the viewcount is intentionally disabled

And yet no one will tell me in the thread on what's wrong with it and why it hasn't been fixed yet. Why have a disabled view count at all? There's no point and if it's never going to be fixed, it should be removed.

this is literally written in the news bar:

We've had to disable view count tracking on posts temporarily while we attempt to address some performance issues with the site. We don't know how long they'll be disabled.

Performance issues which, as of yesterday, were being addressed and have been resolved, were they not? It's been six months, just saying. I'm just trying to figure out why no one was replying on that bug feedback thread and to get an understanding on where the issue is, that's all.

If the issue was fixed with yesterday's update, it would have been enabled again. That's it.

It's been seven months, if they didn't fix it then, they won't fix it ever. They could have at least replied to my query on that thread. There's no point in even having a view counter anymore.

That's all I'm saying

Not so. If we had no plans to fix it, we would have already removed it entirely.

The developers probably didn't respond about the view counter immediately because it's a known and longstanding issue from long before this set of updates. And they know it hasn't been fixed yet, so it's not going to be any more broken than it already was. I understand it's sorely missed, and it is on the long list of site issues that need attention. But right now the focus is on making sure that anything which these updates broke, gets repaired quickly.

The major updates that were made yesterday, also made it far easier to update things in the future without the whole site having to go down. This will make many future bug fixes a lot easier and quicker to make. And eventually one of those updates will probably fix the view counter. It just was not in the list of changes made yesterday.

If you want someone to acknowledge you, it's best to keep your post there so somebody can read it

they are going to enable it eventually. stop being so impatient. im p sure that the viewcounter is not very high priority issue with fifty million other bugs that still need to be fixed. and its possible that they just havent found a fix.

Sorry...I'll just keep my mouth to myself, I've probably angered admins by being impatient, that wasn't my intent -_-

You really need to toughen up, and learn patience.

Things have a priority, our devs have jobs (that aren't related to e621 at all), school, social lives, etc., etc. The updates yesterday improved the performance, but did they improve the performance enough that we have enough resources to throw the viewcounter back into the mix? No idea. Hopefully yes, maybe no, we don't know. The statistics aren't in yet, simply because there was no time to collect the data yet.
We are going to evaluate the improvements and then later on decide if we can tackle this issue, and how, or not.

So, relax, everything in due time.

You seem to have this misconception that people here, by default, are required to bend to your every whim, and do anything, and everything you desire right when you ask. Just because you make a thread doesn't mean people are required to respond to it, nor do any questions have to be answered within minutes of you asking.

You're not a priority, none of the admins here have to throw down what they're doing at any given point just to get straight to you and your "problems", and thinking that they need to is pretty pompous of you.

Ugh, I wish I never made this fucking thread, I've gone and screwed up big time.
