Topic: Cub Central

Posted under General

I was wondering if somebody could do a full site rip of cub central before it gets taken down. I would do it but at the moment I do not have the resources to do so, and I'm afraid that it will go down before I have said resources. Thanks~!

I think but that can't be right considering I've heard that Michael Sherman's work was up on the site and he's not on the list...

Updated by anonymous

Turns out an account is needed to access nsfw... Anybody got one?

Updated by anonymous

dude...following pickle's advice, i've slowed to only uploading one batch of it at a time but i still have around 1040+ of Mike Sherman's pics left to upload and that's after all these i already have. unless theres somewhere else i haven't dug through, i've got pretty much all of his work by now...i think (over 1k pics on top of what i've already added including those 2 huge pools. just how many pics did this guy have?).

well, it's actually more along the lines of 500+ pics really since the majority are black and white/color versions of each pic which i have to parent on most uploads but still.

just checked and a single pic came up when i searched "Michael Sherman" and it's not a furry pic so it probably wouldn't get approved here anyway.

anyway, if that IS all the artists listed on that index page then i could probably handle it without too much trouble (and unlike sherman's work, not worry about flooding this site with too much of any one artists pics at a time).

edit: lol wth? stories section last updated at 31-Dec-1969 at 18:00. didn't know that site was over 40 years old. lol

edit2: well, now that i'm starting to look through the pics on that site i think i can safely say at least 2 things:

1. given what i'm seeing in these pics, i'm kinda glad i never frequented that site. not judging but...not stuff i'm usually into. i have no problem with pics of cubs since, hey, it's fictional characters in the pics, but i'm seeing a good number of pics with diapers in them... :/ i can put that little difference in preferences aside but see #2 for the real issue i'm seeing.

and 2. a full site rip may be a no go as a lot of these pics seem to be sketches and i don't mean the quality you'd see in the Mike Sherman pics i've uploaded thus far. so due to quality concerns i may have to be a tad picky with what i gather/upload (i'm saying that partly as a notice should anyone delete the pics i upload from cub central get deleted. >.>). issues such as faded/blurry/etc. lines/color, a lot of these sketches look to have been done on just any piece of paper too so some look a bit crumpled or wrinkled as well. not sure how many of those would be approved or simply add to my deletions. example of quality concerns

i can probably get a good sized chunk of the total pics though, just not all.

edit3: :/ i'm sorry but...i've made it as far as Cai's pics (yet MORE sketches but not of too bad quality...maybe) and i think that's as far as i want to go on this site rip request. i don't mind cub pics (seen who knows how many here at e621) but i'm not too sure how far i even want to see concerning all these pics with people wearing diapers. i mean, where do you draw the line between cub and toddler? that's making feel a bit uncomfortable here so i'm going to just go through and upload what i can out of what i've got so far and leave the rest to someone else.

also, could someone advise me on who to put as the artist on one artists pics who someone else colored in? i came across a few mike sherman pics (surprisingly, some i didn't already have) that were colored in by a different artist (Breeze).

Oo. I can answer that.

Unix time is calculated based on "how many seconds it is after [arbitrarily picked date]". This arbitrary date happens to be the exact second after the year 1969, or 1-Jan-1970 at midnight. So for example, the current Unix time (as of writing this) is 1430008585, or 1430008585 seconds since 01-Jan-1970 00:00 UTC.

If the timestamp of the image had a value of 0, it would write the date as Jan-01-1970 00:00 UTC. However not everybody lives in that time zone, and the date may be calculated a few hours earlier or later depending on where they were. The web server is probably located somewhere in the middle of the US, either along CST (-6) or MST during daylight savings hours (also -6). This would make the time fall at -6 hours before 01-Jan-1970 00:00, which happens to be 31-Dec-1969 18:00.

I can also answer this. Artist tag + artist who colored it + colored.

o.O learning new things all the time... as well as more about the tags used here. of the pics i just finished uploading, i found a number of tags i didn't even know about.

Not interested in this myself, but for anyone else that wants to take this up, you should probably clarify whether you have a complete siterip you can hand off to the next person, or only were going through manually, uploading stuff to e6 as you found it.

If the latter is the case, I should point out that with a login and using 'wget','HTTrack' or other spidering software, it's possible to get a complete (that is, including NSFW items) siterip 100% automatically. If you don't understand cookies well enough to get the login/password cookie data needed, a siterip of all non-NSFW stuff can still be done 100% automatically.
(i haven't looked at this specific site, but the above is true for 95% of sites)

you lost me completely on that 2nd paragraph as i have no idea what you were talking about but yeah, to clarify, i was going through manually and the last artist i went through was Cai.

speaking of...my upload slots are back up so i can add some more of what i grabbed (64 pics...well, 35 left to go after this batch of uploads) now.

edit: could you or someone else who knows, tell me the species of those insect...anthros? in Azadeth's pics? i was going to upload them the other day but then i realized i don't know what species to put (spider or something i think). i'll add those once that's figured out.

Okay, cool, that's what whoever's next needs to know.

2nd paragraph: Perhaps you don't know what 'spidering' means.
Wikipedia gives a fairly good summary:

A Web crawler is an Internet bot which systematically browses the World Wide Web, typically for the purpose of Web indexing. A Web crawler may also be called a Web spider,[1] an ant, an automatic indexer,[2] or (in the FOAF software context) a Web scutter.[3]

Web search engines and some other sites use Web crawling or spidering software to update their web content or indexes of others sites' web content.

So software like wget or HTTrack can get you a complete copy of every file that is publically available on a website, organized in the exact same way that the website organizes it.
If you're being considerate by using the option to pause for N seconds between downloads, then the task can take some time to complete. But rarely longer than it would take a human to do it, and of course it will manage to get -everything-, completely automatically, with no accidental omissions. That's effectively a full backup of the website content (within the parameters you specify -- eg, images, but not javascript or CSS etc), so once you have that, you are no longer dependent on their server staying up, you can just browse the local copy.

This is, naturally, particularly relevant if you think a website is about to become defunct: it's probably the most effective path to ensuring all of its content is saved.

There are cases in which this is not effective -- Javascript-only navigation, for example. I've got no idea whether that applies to this site.

Finally, these 'spiders' can convey login information if needed, in the form of cookies. Since someone said NSFW content is only accessible with a login, this is relevant. In these cases it is optimal to have a login and understand how to get the cookie data you need in order for the spider to act like it is a logged in user. If you don't understand how to do that, then the copy of the website you obtain will not include the content which is only accessible by a logged in user.

edit: could you or someone else who knows, tell me the species of those insect...anthros? in Azadeth's pics? i was going to upload them the other day but then i realized i don't know what species to put (spider or something i think). i'll add those once that's figured out.

No idea, I've literally never been there.

this is the first i've ever heard about ANY of that stuff.

*facepalm* well, that means i may've mised a fair amount of pics then. since i didn't bother to register.

then again, what i just quoted isn't entirely true

Good news everyone, I managed to get the rip started :P

I can't get access to the private areas due to not having an actual account to log into the server with, but I'm downloading everything else all at once (including NSFW/scat/whatever else is in the public folders). When it's all done I'll probably end up putting together 3 versions together for sharing (I may not bother with sharing #1 due to it being a much larger messy download with no real benefit).

  • 1) Full site rip
    • Includes all files that are publicly accessible. This includes images, comment pages, stories, disclaimer page, misc. CSS/HTML files, etc.
    • Includes zip/tgz archive files - These just provide a convenient way to download an entire gallery at once, but they don't (or at least shouldn't) contain anything the gallery doesn't already have
    • Includes junk files that don't actually do anything - These files don't exist on the actual website, but were saved as a byproduct of how the site rip got the other files. These can be deleted safely.
    • Should be able to browse site entirely offline (without internet). This can be done in Firefox/Chrome/Opera/Safari/etc., or even hosted on your network if you happen to know how to do that.
    • Largest download
      • Size: 2-10 GB (estimated)
  • 2) Almost full site rip:
    • Includes everything the Full site rip does, except the archive files and junk files
    • Should be able to browse site entirely offline (without internet) as above, with exception of the archive links
    • Significantly smaller download than the Full site rip (an estimated 40-80% smaller)
      • Size: 1-3 GB (estimated)
  • 3) Partial site rip:
    • Only includes images
    • Does not include archives, junk files, web pages, or any other frills
    • Won't be able to browse site offline. Content will be browsable in folders organized by artist - Ex: ~/Downloads/CubCentral rip/Artistname/fursonasketch1.jpg
    • Probably won't be that much smaller than "Almost full site rip"
      • Size: 1-3 GB (estimated)

It's not done yet, so the full download might end up being as much as 5-10 GB, but at the same time I wouldn't be surprised if the "images only" version ended up being under 1 GB when everything else is cleaned out.

I'll let you guys know when it's finished and where you can go to download them.

Edit: Needed to redo the download with a different program as the one I used before didn't produce a workable offline archive. Since I installed WebHTTrack the offline version works perfectly. The full rip is sitting at ~2.4 GB but the final download(s) should be much smaller than that after optimizing it, and it should be ready within the next day or two.

just so i can get this straight and not waste everyones time making a mess of the tags. a mike sherman pic for example. would i put "artist:mike_sherman artist:breeze colored" or would it be artist:breeze_(colored)?

an example pic where i could see how the tags are done would be helpful.

edit: again?! *facepalm* ok, so i can't upload any of the pics that were listed under the author Bug as it switches the tag to species:insect instead.

Firstly, mike_sherman is already an artist tag, so you don't actually need to prefix it with artist:

As for the tag for the colorist, I've seen them have the suffix _(colorist) before, but I've seen just a regular tag more often. If there's a conflict you can usually disambiguate it easily enough by using _(artist) or _(colorist), but it kind of depends on the tag. If the artist's name is a common word or phrase make sure that it isn't already a tag before you change tag types (e.g., *breeze*:/tag?name=*breeze*&type=&order=count)

bug_(artist)

ok, i get it now. ty again parasprite

edit: there, almost all i had gathered is uploaded except for azadeth's stuff but that's only because i don't know what species to put...or gender for that matter (how do you tell gender on insect characters anyway?). weird artist

as for the whole prefix thing, i've been doing that since i started uploading and going back and forth to check tags and whatnot. i guess i kinda made a habit of using them, if only to keep my tagging more organized while uploading. it makes more text in the tag field but it helps me keep from mistakenly putting tags under the wrong category.

Alright, I got everything together, conveniently just in time as the file server seems to have already been taken down.

Please be mindful of bandwidth! I can only provide 10 GB worth of downloads before the links stop working (which is about ~22 individual downloads of the first archive). Let me know if any links break so I can rehost them.

(feel free to help out with a torrent if you know how to)

CubCentral.org site rip

1. and 2. are actually not mine, but rips I found here and rehosted. They actually include more content than what I've ripped, and are what 99.9% of people here will be looking for.

3. and 4. are an offline archive of the website (html pages) that I have made and is provided for those who want it.

  • 1.) Images only - 452 MB
    • Pass: runninglemurs
    • Public + private sections
  • 2.) Stories only - 7.7 MB
    • Pass: runninglemurs
    • Public + private sections
Offline-browsable website rip (incomplete)
Important:

This archive is provided as-is. It is hacked together from what I managed to scrape over the last couple days. Some areas of the website may not work as expected. I tested the main pages and optimized it as best as I could given the circumstances, but there are still some areas of the website that don't work as expected, and a few things missing (namely the private sections and some content that is included in the archives above).

If you just want to look at the content, do not download these. Use the links above instead
  • 3.) Site rip - 225 MB (~30k files, most are misc. html pages and thumbnails)
    • Pass: runninglemurs
    • Only public sections (missing a few images)
    • No private sections
    • Browsable offline
    • No gallery archives (duplicates packed in zip/tgz)
  • 4.) Site rip + zip/tgz files (dmail me for link) - 580 MB
    • Pass: runninglemurs
    • Same as partial, but includes the duplicate gallery archives packed in zip/tgz.
    • No private sections
    • Basically useless for most people to have. I'll provide it for you if you ask, but trust me when I say that this is probably not going to be worth the extra ~400 MB.

First off, sorry to responding to an old thread but this is sort of one of the few archives that exist of this site. I ripped one myself with private access before the site went down and have it myself, and may be more complete than the ones listed here (It's bigger, even compressed size) and may consider sharing that.

But before I do that, does anyone have the .torrent file posted above? What ever link it was posted at is dead now. I want to get it and compare it to what I have.

app.ez.lv was my old app shortcut url, unfortunately that and the files died with my HDD. The recovered SQL database shows that the only seeders was 2 people who have been inactive for 3 months, not including the seed server(which, as stated above, died with my HDD). Sorry. :<
If I can get my tracker server up again, I'll seed it again. But you may be able to get it from parasprite's post for now:

  • 4.) Site rip + zip/tgz files (dmail me for link) - 580 MB

    • Same as partial, but includes the duplicate gallery archives packed in zip/tgz.

Get a program called Grabber. I used it to test my new ISP; I batch downloaded 70GB of furry porn while I was at work.

Nah, just left it running while I was away. It's a batch downloader, and you can set up custom imageboards and filter by tag.

app.ez.lv was my old app shortcut url, unfortunately that and the files died with my HDD.

Given the current state of 8archive.moe I'm gonna look at this as Cub Central being wiped out. All siterips of the site lost in the sea of data that is the internet.

Worse yet the Cub Central Image file on mega can't be synced or downloaded. I've even imported the thing to my own cloud drive with no change.

Gees...using a New Zealand domain site to upload rip-photos onto.
...There's better sites for that.

Ironically, I had it ready to seed again except my computer broke, again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That could just be your browser. MEGA and Firefox don't seem to like each other too much. But I downloaded from all three MEGA links on Thursday with no problems using Chrome.

Anyone have an alternate for what was on 8archive?

I don't know what was on 8archive so not sure... I have a file (which I don't know where I got from) called "up0463.7z" (480 660 205 bytes) which is AES encrypted with password "cubcentral2" downloaded from mega.co.nz with ID "R84HhTbK". However I don't have the Mega key so I can't directly provide you with a valid download link. It contains both images and stores, both public and private, but I have no validity of its completeness.
