but...not all pixelation is censorship. the 1st pic there has a pixelated background but the bubbles are the censorship method there. not even sure why the tail is pixelated in the 2nd pic and...what exactly is being censored in the 3rd pic?

not the best examples there. maybe dig up a few pixiv pics to use as examples instead? i'm sure theres ample such pics to choose from from there given how japan loves to censor they're porn.

Well, they (and I mean those three pics specifically: there are no further ones using the tag) are pretty much the only things that could POSSIBLY be something unique in that tag.

Everything else is stuff that belongs to mosaic_censorship (so clearly most people using pixelated actually intend censorship) or one of the other tags I mentioned (pixel_art or aliasing)

IIRC I might have contributed to that.. I remember a discussion about the difference between mosaic censorship and legit pixelation, in the past.

My current view would agree with your suggestion*: I think there is no particular value in tagging non-mosaic pixelation, as you say it's very rare, and (distinct from pixel art) it seems like something no-one will actually search for.

\* provided the ones where it isn't mosaic censorship have the tag removed first, of course.
