Topic: Note/Edit limits?

Posted under General

I was just sitting around doing some translating, and ran up against the hourly note edit limit. Seemed weird to have. Is that just to prevent a-holes using automated stuff to screw things up or something? I'd think otherwise it'd be good to let people do as much as they had time for. Clearly it's not something at least I personally run up against often, but curious, is there a way to change it or anything? I sometimes get the random urge to sit and do some stuff.

It's mainly to prevent ban evaders or trolls from screwing up the site too much, even when those things can be reverted within the blink of an eye by an administrator.

The only way to have your limit increased is to acquire the rank of Privileged or higher, which removes the limits entirely (except for the upload limit, which gets removed at the Contributor rank or any rank above it).

e621:rules (scroll down to User Ranks)

I remember some of my early days on e621. There was a ban evader nuking the tags off of a specific user their posts which I found out about via tagcount:<4. I pretty much stalked their edits on their profile and reverted everything as soon as it came up. Their tag edit limit was reached and so was mine. I guess that's called "counter-trolling"?

I see - looked it over in the help topic. It's a little vague though. You just set about doing generally useful things and assume that at some point someone with elevated rights might just click the upgrade button, is it? Or do you have to actually do something - put in some type of request or something?

That's basically the gist of it. Sometimes people put in requests but we pay attention to users who contribute to the site (uploading, tag edits, forums, aliases/implications, wiki, etc.).

They really do. I've been told at one point "Hey, you're doing a pretty good job, but it'd help if you fixed these minor habits" so they're definitely keeping an eye on things.

Just don't expect things to change quickly, it does take time. It's a pretty big site with a large userbase.

Gotcha. Yeah, I'm not exactly in any significant need of any change, really. I just got curious when I had some free time, got on a roll running through translation requests, and suddenly hit an error I'd never seen. Really, more than likely the reason I even finally saw it for the first time was because I was going through and actually putting in all of the stupid little sound effects that pepper pages so often. Leaving those out can stretch the ration. I doubt it'll be any kind of significant or recurring issue.

If you just keep working with the limit you have, then one day that limit could be gone. I have seen it happen plenty of times, you just have to put the work in ^-^d
