Topic: Possible Unauthorised Edit

(I apologise in advance if I turn out to be wrong, or that I created a Forum discussion, rather than waiting out for a moderator to find the image - I just wanted to make sure about this)

This original artist is darkmare and the original image is post #1077628
post #1077628

However - Unless I'm deeply mistaken - the edit was done by the uploader, and not the artist, this edit is not on the artists Furaffinty, Inkbunny, or their other sites. So I don't believe it was by them, it be notified otherwise I feel.
Possibly making it an unauthorised edit and it being against the rules listed.

I just wanted to notify someone with the ability to look into this, and if I'm wrong or correct about this.

Just pasting what it says in the rules

Plagiarism
Suggested Suspension Length: 7 days
This category includes:
•Wrongfully claiming ownership of artwork
•Tracing artwork without the consent of the original owner or artist
•Repeatedly creating unauthorized edits after the original artist asked to stop

Commonly known as art theft, this is something we take very serious as the work of artists are the life blood of our website. Any found traced pictures will be deleted and any wrong claims will be hidden or corrected.
Important to note, we still allow “fan edits” but we will remove them if the artist wishes so and we may take action against the editor if the edits continue to be uploaded after the artist has asked to stop them.

---

But once again, my apologises if I'm wrong about this, made a mistake, or not supposed to make a forum post about - Just being cautious

nothing there says that unauthorized edits are not allowed at all. it only talks about posting edits after artist has request them not to do so.

Key phrase there is "repeatedly creating unauthorized edits after the original artist asked to stop". This means we allow edits, up until the artist asks to stop (maybe going as far as to submit takedowns), not "do not upload unauthorized edits".

You should always get permission to edit & upload, but neither are required.

The Edit tag implies that the picture has been edited by someone else other than the original artist. It has been here with the description since it has been uploaded, so mentioning the picture is edited by the uploader is redundant to mention.

Edits are not unauthorized, or at least blatantly shouldn't be, because that's a concept that sounds kind of dumb honestly. The original artist has the possibility to handle those like it is the end of the world and flip over that, or be completely fine about it. It's always better to ask the artist for an edit (Since a lot of them tend to be extremely overprotective of their work and take the act of editing like an insult or art theft) but for some people that make edits, it just sounds unnecessary to ask due to the intentions and impacts of an edit not being harmful in any way.

If the artist wants it removed, then he can of course ask for the deletion of the edit, but since this is obviously not an attempt of art theft of any kind and the mentions of being an edit are clearly stated, I don't think the edit is something to panic over
