Topic: What is Handy Monsters?

Posted under General

There's this tag out and about, HandyMonsters (Also, Handy_Monsters. The only document I could find on it was in the Pixiv encyclopedia, which only said "This page is under construction," yet there are plenty of images with the tag on them over there, too.
Is this just a Pokemon clone? Some of these guys look like Pokemon:
post #90410 "Zoroark" HanMon (This one's five years old, you'd think they'd have some documentation by now!)

Seriously, these look like Pokemon that have just been modified a bit in their design (Where colors are, extra or fewer tufts, the material that coats their body).

It's mobile phone personification + furrification. They draw their original characters and use them to do communications with other users.

According to that, "Handy Monsters" is "My electronic device came to life as some sort of bizarre creature." Their Monkey Mascot is apparently a cellphone, with the designs in its fur being designs from the phone itself (flower icon, musical notes, camera lense, flashlight lense). I can't seem to find info on what these other guys are, though, what were they created from?

If they're furrifying them into Pokemon, shouldn't they still get the Pokemon tags?

No, nor fakemon of course. Make handymon or whatever if you really want them to get such tag.

A quadruped with a mane is an eevee? Well, okay.

You just look at the profile for one of the characters and it'll say. Like this one for KORTA.

EDIT: Actually, Norimon is a separate series entirely, but still the same idea.

I can see the similarities. post #960411 , you'd still have to take artistic details into consideration, but the mane is a large detail that draws a similarity.

Of course, that is an obvious fallback for species drawing: take something you like, and add at least one obvious detail and some minor details to make it "original". Even Pokemon have this, they are (or at least the original, for simplicity's sake) all based around a known animal (mythological or otherwise) or simple object. Then they just added some extra details, and poof, you have a pocket monster.

Now, for a bit of dry humor: eventually, an actual original thing will come from nothing. Not a dragon, a canine, or Cthulhu-oid. It'll be bashed on and destroyed by people who force similarities, because there can't be "original" as a concept anymore.

Some of them are hard to track down though--Especially since people are usually fond of uploading the more risque or pornographic images, rather than the bio pages.

A maned fox is an eevee. I guess Pokemon's just gotten a ton of ideas covered is all.
