Topic: Inconsistent post deletion?

Posted under General

Howdy, I've never posted in this forum before but someone referred me here so I figured I'd give it a shot.

I noticed some posts with Princess Bubblegum (like this, or this, or this) are approved by admins, but others are deleted for being irrelevant to the site.

It's the same character, so why are only some posts approved? Not trying to be a smartass here, I just don't really get it, haha.

The posts are approved based on how much the character looks like a repainted human, or like an actual goo/bubblegum creature.

If we can actually see that the character is not just a bodypainted human she's relevant to us and will be approved. If she just looks like a bodypainted human we count her as irrelevant.

The line between acceptable humanoid and unacceptable humanoid can sometimes be a little blurry, and each janitor might draw that line in a slightly different place. I once uploaded a few images of a certain Star Wars character, and they were all approved. A few months later, I uploaded some more art of the same character (in some cases the images were variants of images that had already been approved), and they were almost all deleted. In all fairness, this is supposed to be a furry website, so I can't complain if some images that are only barely non-human get deleted.

that character certainly is one borderline case. but im surprised that stuff like this is apparently furry enough for this site

I can only say that if I were a janitor, my inclination would have been to delete that image for not being sufficiently furry. I'm not sure if I actually would have - I don't know what criteria or prior art exists to help define more concrete borders within the alien-monster-furry spectrum.

Grandfathered. Better versions of posts that have been previously approved are kept.

I dunno if you intended to quote-reply the post above it, but the image in the post you quoted didn't exist until two years after the site switched to the no human-only policy.

Though personally I can understand subjective viewer opinions on whether the head-tails are part of her body or just a headdress.

It could be a bvas replacement of an older post

Artist doesn't appear to have been active under that name before 2015

The no humans rule was added in just before the start of December of 2016, as far as I know.

In any case the artist uploaded the image originally to tumblr on Apr 22nd, 2017 so it's not valid either way.

As far as I can find, the big forum announcement was Dec 2014

And yes, I'm aware the source image is from 2017, I thought you were trying to argue that could have been a reupload.

Oh, it wasn't on the uploading guidelines until late November 2016, so that's when I thought the rule started being enforced. I wasn't really active back then, so I don't really know for sure either way.

Did some digging and it looks like it was added to Avoid Posting in June 2014

looking at order:id status:deleted delreason:human it seems that they started deleting posts for human_only semi-regularly in 2015 and then in late 2016 they expanded the definition of what they'd delete for human_only so more and more posts got deleted from then on. It could also be that we got like five times more posts in 2017 compared to 2016 so more posts got deleted just because more posts were created in total or some combination of the two.

This rule needs some sort of refining because I'm not even sure what falls under it anymore. At one point I was told Crystal gems were deleted because they were jsut candy colored humans but those too seem to be hit-or-miss depending on who approves it.

It... it isn't that hard.

Does it have some non-human features? Examples include: Pointed ears, animal ears, a gooey looking body, hooves, claws (not pointed nails, but obvious CLAWS), horns, wings, a horse cock, three eyes, a tail, fangs or sharp teeth (Like claws, this needs to not be "cute anime nyo~on fangs) ...

Things that do not count are being blue, or having exaggerated anatomy. (I remember when the "cool style" was drawing characters with hands that were about 3 times the size of their heads.) Weird eye color doesn't count (I can order contacts that will give me "unearthly" yellow eyes.). non-human behavior doens't count, having a huge dick doesn't count.

Non-human, not augmented human.

That said, we're not perfect, y'know? Sometimes we look at a picture and go "oh, that's SamSam, she's a vampire." and approve it because our brain says "that's a vampire" and we look at it without really... judging the image on that merit. Like I said, we're human.

There are some characters like quetzalcoatl_(dragon_maid) where it can get tricky.

post #1576210 <-- this character has horns.
post #1591762 <-- this character is wearing a hat with weird horn attachments.
post #1585239 <-- this character is wearing a hat that seems to actually be folding around the horn sticking out of it, and has a bit of extra focus on the non-human glowing eye.

But, as I said, we're only human and we make mistakes. If you see a RECENTLY APPROVED picture thatyou think shouldn't have been approved, feel free to send them to someone and ask. Just be polite. "Hey, I saw these approved recently and think they might be a little too human for the site. I thought I'd send them to you so you could have a second look! Have a good day :)" ... not "yeah some idiot approved this human shit >:( What the fuck is wrong with you guys?"

We're only human, we make mistakes, and there are a LOT of pictures we go through every day. We make mistakes!

Well done Janitor. E621 Administration once again reminds you that Janitor Hell is a real place where you will be sent at the first sign of imperfection.

Too late. My religion has been shattered. I will now return to sacrificing cotton to the mother of Poofs .
