Yeah, if you wouldn't link to pay content that'd be great.

Didn't know it was paid, sorry. Only some of it is on this site.

I like comics where the point of it isn't to just be a series of porn drawings.

Take https://e621.net/pool/show/9114 for example. A couple of actual characters with character development.
Nice and slow burning too.
Not ideal for "getting off", but there's non-comics for that.

I Dunnno, it just feels a bit cheap to have just page after page after page of porn after 1-2 pages of character introductions.
..There are exceptions to this though!
https://e621.net/pool/show/7636 despite having a gratuitous amount of porn, it's still very good, if mostly for the comedic side (those reaction faces, omg). And it's somehow managed to develop its characters alongside the ridiculous porn.

You literally just described the exact type of comics I hate. I just cannot be fucked to care about most people's uninteresting bullshit characters. "This is Jake Whitefang, he's a grey wolf of the Moonhowl tribe, today is his first hunt and-" STOP. NO. FUCK YOU. Get to the porn, or I'm out.

It's kinda like how every action movie starts with a bit of action (ever notice that?). They do that for a reason...basically they know people are there for action, so they give you some right off the bat. They're showing you they can deliver, then the can slow it down and tell a story, and people will sit through it because they know there is more action to come. Notice the original Star Wars didn't begin with Luke dicking around in the desert helping out on the moisture farm...it began with a space battle.

The problem with most of these comics is that the people making them just don't know what they're doing...they are bad storytellers and they just don't know about this principle. If you're going to have porn, start off with a bit of porn to convince people like me to sit through your long-winded story to get more porn. Ofc the other route is to have like 3-4 pages of story and then jump right to porn, you only need to bookend if you plan on telling a long story.

Well, I agree, but I also disagree.

Action, character development, action is definitely a good way to tell a story!

But it depends on what sort of story you're telling and who your target audience is.

Romances, for example, don't do well with that concept. A romance is more about--generally--building up anticipation. It's about showing that these characters have chemistry so that when they're finally getting it on, you feel satisfied because you've been WANTING this for ages.

Bad romance is when the author doesn't "sell" the idea that the two characters are experiencing intense emotions/desire for each other.

But, this is basically the difference between a romantic erotic comic and a pornographic erotic comic. Both have their place--and both can be done awfully. or exceptionally well.

That said, I'm in camp romantic. My favorite comics are the ones where I really get into the characters. For me, if there's no real emotional connection to the characters, what's the point? But we're all different!
