Topic: Artists who don't tag themselves

Posted under General

Artist uploads own art to e6.
No source or artist tag.
Someone else comes along and adds unknown_artist

example: post #1690909
edit: found the source of this post, uploader may or may not be the artist
but the rest of the post still stands :)

In this case, it's pretty obvious.

It would be nice if we had a standard text for this kind of situation, like:
https://e621.net/comment/show/4140943
(plus an explanation of how to create a new artist tag and artist wiki, and how to check first if the to-be-created artist tag is already taken)

Perhaps this could be a feature of the new upload page? Like there is an option to say "I am the artist" then it would basically instruct you to create your own artist tag.

Honestly it's a problem I notice on most image board sites in general. Many artists, especially newer ones, do no tag themselves. I've seen artists who've uploaded hundreds of images and yet never tagged themselves. I think they're under the false impression that people will simply understand that they are the artist because they are the uploader...but that's not how this works...that's not how any of this works.

Bigger issue I'm having is that this seems to happen constantly, where artist posts their artwork, then flags it for deletion for being too large, meanwhile the sites they have posted the same artwork has it at that exact same resolution available.

New upload form has seperate section for artist and character names partially for this reason, because artists really commonly don't seem to realize how this isn't their personal gallery site and assume that uploader = owner. Hopefully Kira can get this up and running at some point.

It is also kinda baffling how many artists simply put their own gallery as source, but at the same time the reason why many artists do not post here directly themselves is because it's so much extra work just to get the artwork up and for them simply having more traffic is more important instead of having archived data.
