Topic: What is a good resolution to upload my stuff here?

Posted under General

so, i have been uploading my work for a while here on e621 but turns out the resolution have been a issue. i make them on a padronized size(1200x1200 pixels for small and 2480x3507 pixels for big) , and as a result all my stuff have been tagged here with absurd resolution
i want to keep posting here, but i want to know what is a good image size so people can see my work propperly

Limit for uploads is 100 MB and 15000×15000 for good reasons. Superabsurd res is simply informative tag which in many cases is badge of honor.

One of our aims is archival, so upload the content as close to original as possible. See e621:image_quality.

By default for guests (log out or watch post page with browsers incognito mode) 800x800 JPG sample is shown and user has to click to see full resolution. For logged in users this is user setting where accounts before 2017 use older dynamic scaling which prevents image from overflowing horizontally from page. Both of these settings should make content easily viewable no matter how large it is.

To expand to Mairo a little...

Generally speaking, don't worry about the absurd res tag. It's not a big deal. That tag has been around for 10 years, and is kind of a relic in it's own right. screens were a bit smaller back then, and the internet was a bit slower. But some people find it useful, and it's easy to keep tagged. :)

We *want* pictures to be as close to the size they were made at as possible... as the artist makes publicly available. There are easy ways for users to control what size they see an image at, so don't worry about that. Upload your pictures at the large size :)

in addition to what Mairo said about sample sizes, if you view one of your pictures on e621, then scroll down on the left to where it says "size:" ... if you click on the numbers, it'll shrink the picture down to your screen width for easy viewing :)

So, don't worry about it! <3 we like big pictures!
