Topic: What Format is Needed For Uploading a Animation/Video

Posted under General

Heya ╹‿╹)

Alright to cut right to the point with this one.
I've finished an animation and looking for the right
the format to post it on 621. I couldn't find a guide
I should turn too for help on this, So why not go public.

-what file Size is acceptable when uploading?
and
-Is MOV (And/Or MP4) an accepted format
for videos or does it have to be WEB?
(Shooting for Mov since that allows transparency. ◠‿◠)

Currently fiddling around with my settings to see if
there's a way to stay under a Gig since anything bigger
than that crashes the uploader upon upload.

Bonus Question to the extremely kind!
is there a way to convert a Mp4 to meet the standards
Fur Affinity's Uploader would I just need to link people to
the animation?

Generally with videos, transparency is for editing stages, you most likely shouldn't even try to aim for end encode to have transparency.

VP8 does technically support transparent background, but nearly nothing supports this outside chrome and media players which do fill it with black regardless.

E: If you want transparent animation with high quality, use APNG.

That's the size of half an hour anime episode in 1080p (actually 800 MB). Gig is way too much for end encode unless you did half hour video somehow.

Also considering you are implementing alpha layer (transparency) that would mean that the video you have is in lossless format, because in editing stages that's crucial.

I think newgrounds has extremely high upload size limit, however after that e621 has 100 MB and other artwork sites have similar or lower. After that you would need to use cloud/filehost.

Furaffinity does not support video files at all. They only support flash (which is being discontinued with browsers in 2020) and GIF. This is why many animators post their video on external hosts and link to it in FA description field.
Most popular services I have seen linked to are e621, FurryNetwork, catbox.moe, MEGA, Gdrive and Inkbunny.

Edit:
Wait, Could you hold on a sec,
Would you also happen to know a solid
way of converting a video file to Swf?
By any chance?

Ffmpeg
ffmpeg -i video.mov -q:v 1 -an output.swf
-i specifies input
-q:v specifies quality, lower=better
-an disables audio

So the case seems to be, Dood.
Yep just took a look at the supported formats myself and the type of
transparency I'm looking for would only work when reapplying the work
as an overlay in other projects which of course sucks but CAN be worked
around; I say! lolz

And snap, I had no idea that Flash on FA would stop being a thing so
soon. Guess I would be for the best to go with something external.
Just worry that people won't click the link ya know? Better to have the
content front and center than in another castle.

And I didn't exact it to export to that size either, Though with the number
of keyframes in there I guess I can understand 'how' lolz. Though I'm sure once
I'm actually done converting the file I'll be at a quarter of that size while
hopefully retaining some of its insane export quality. ◠‿◠)

No, flash is ending on all over the internet. Adobe, the creator of the software will stop supporting it in 2020 and browsers follow suite so the users aren't put at security risks.

That's why even we have had discussions what to do with flash content on e621 because they would need to be downloaded to be watched after 2020.

It's furaffinity that should already have support for at least videos, but they don't.

Wait Really?!
That's just terrible, dood!
I'm mean terrible; terrible!

Knowing that I hope someone's achieved the ones on 621,
would be more than a shame to see all those great flash
games go. If you don't mind me getting a bit off topic
what 'would' happen to all the flash games on here?
Would they just be dead in the water?
