Reason:

Same thing. Just cuts users off from seeing the few posts that might be tagged with it when searching Russian_text

EDIT: The tag alias cyrillic_text -> russian_text (forum #269278) has been rejected by @bitWolfy.

Cyrillic and Russian are absolutely not the same thing. Cyrillic is an alphabet used by many languages, not just Russian. Aliasing cyrillic_text to russian_text would be like aliasing french_text to english_text or japanese_text to chinese_text. Not happening.

What is the point of the Cyrillic text tag though? As far as I know we don't usually tag alphabets and only the language itself - so should the cyrillic_text tag be replaced with the language (russian_text, ukrainian_text, etc) on a case-by-case basis?

I have always assumed cyrillic_text is for when the text is no particular language, such as a chracter's name in cyrillic script.

Yeah that's actually a really good point I didn't think about. I wonder what usually happens with names written in the Latin alphabet, probably ends up getting tagged as english_text.

Or possibly fake Cyrillic, where English speakers substitute similar-looking Cyrillic characters without any idea what they mean.
