Just want to ask:

"Why does it needs so long for the admin/mods to approve or delete posts?
I have some Artworks in my gallery, which are waiting for a approval or deletion since... week & months...
Just saying.

Updated by ListerTheSquirrel

There's not a huge amount of approvers (around 18 active) and things can slip through the cracks with the amount of uploads each day.

Posts can only be unapproved for 30 days until it's automatically deleted, and the oldest post you have this isn't approved/deleted yet is 24 days old, so you're exaggerating.

You're wrong.
The Refsheet of my demonwolf was uploaded a month ago... and after 30 days it was deleted automatically.

...did you read the post?

It looks like, of 33 deleted posts, 6 were deleted because they fell off the end of the queue, and the other 27 were manually deleted for not meeting the minimum quality bar of the site. 8 posts are pending approval.

What I can say is that from the ones that were deleted by automoderator, I did see them all and thought about deleting.

So everything is working as intented.

However I can also see you reuploading already deleted content, this is uploading abuse, so those are also now deleted and matter forwarded to admins.

It's confusing and absurd, how their system works. Many of my Artworks... getting deleted, because it doesn't meet the minimum standards... But what ARE these minimum standards? Is this maybe just a personal taste from the admin and mods?
Or what?
It's just very annoying... They should at least tell me, what EXACTLY is the problem in the deleted post...

Asking for special treatment from admins when it comes to post deletion is a little unrealistic, don't you think? What you're asking for could be a multi-paragraph writeup in a worst-case scenario.

Here's how it words.

Someone goes through the queue. they look at what is, right now, pending approval. We get around 1000 pictures a day. (Mar 10 had 945, Mar 9 had 1050 for example) we approve the ones that look good. We delete the ones that are: very bad, low visual quality potatoes, human only, duplicates, etc etc.

The problem is, there's stuff leftover. Pictures where your'e not quite sure if it's good enough, or bad enough, or you worry you might be biased about it due to it's content. Generally, we leave those alone.

Someone else goes through the queue, and the same thing happens.

Generally speaking, we reduce that 1000 pictures a day to about 20-40 pictures after about 2-3 days.

Basically every picture left remaining after about a week has been looked at by several people and none of us are willing to pull the trigger and delete it, or accept it.

So...

I think it's been explained several times....

Many of my Artworks... getting deleted, because it doesn't meet the minimum standards... But what ARE these minimum standards?

From the uploading_guidelines...

Quality standards:

  • All submissions need to display a solid grasp of artistic principles
  • All submissions need to be presented in a legible / readable format
  • the chosen medium (image, video, flash) needs to be of a high quality
    • traditional media needs to be either scanned in properly or photographed with impeccable lighting and contrast

Is this maybe just a personal taste from the admin and mods?

Nope, we all take effort to avoid personal taste playing into it too much. that's why there are, as said, over a dozen folks going through the queue, handleing over 1000 posts a day.

Or what? It's just very annoying... They should at least tell me, what EXACTLY is the problem in the deleted post...

Now, come on.

Stop and think about what you just said. how long does it take to offer good artistic critique? I hope your answer is at least 5 minutes. :|

The answer, over all, is "we don't think it's good enough for this art archive"

So.

I"ll have a look.

post #1807753 your line width is weirdly variable. and chunky. the red raichu's arm looks like the elbow is thinner than the hand. The outline on the forward arm and head is way bigger than any line on the lucachu, who's lines are basically all the same width. I like that the lines taper, but your skill with line-width-variation needs more work to make it look natural.
The line art is also rough. The raichu's finger is weirdly shaped. the other fingers curl in weirdly around a hand with, well, no real wrist or anything. the head of the raichu seems to be floating over it's body with no neck. also the curve of the groin is just... odd. the frame being cut off where it is makes the picture look weird. The raichu's body proportions looks somewhat humanoid, but the frame cutting off an inch below the crotch makes it seem like his legs should be humanoid-ish, making the Lucachu extremely short in comparison. The lucachu seems like it's intended that she's chubby/pregnant, but there's no real .... sense to it. She's got a round stomach ball, but that's on the same level as the arm going behind the raichu, and there's no 'back side' to her body over there so she jsut looks... melty over into the raichu. Also her other arm looks like it was glued to her side and there's no real sence to 'motion' to the fingers. Stuffed animal. D:

The background is a void that didn't take any effort. it's a line. above it is blue with some air brushed clouds, and below is green.

I do like the faces. you get a fair amount of emotion into the expressions and the eyes are very vivid and clear as to expressing what they're feeling. That's good. That's *hard* to get right.

I have now spent 10 minute explaining what, exactly, the problem is with ONE post.

post #1807749 is basically the same thing. I"ll draw particular attention to the paws and hands, where they are basically all drawn the same way. These look like they would be found in a pretty neat coloring book. Solid thick lines, lots of space to put in your own colors. that's neat, but it's not e621 quality.

Over all: Work on your line work. Tighten up your anatomy a little. Make your poses look more dynamic. post #1794921 is basically 100% from the side. That whole "left leg is a line a little bit infront of the right leg" thing is a bad thing to see. real poses rarely look like that. Also. horse hind legs don't do that D: they look like this the kind legs you've drawn don't do anything like that. D: they look weirdly thick in places, backwards in others :C the fur tufts on the canid don't look very fluffy. they look... thick. they're rounded at the tip, the body between fur chunks looks smooth. there's no real indication that there's fur.... study how others draw that sort of thing and figure out what makes it good: It's going to be your line art, mostly. (I do like what you tried to do with the canid's hand. the little bit of an angle between first and middle fingers was brave and I like it. unfortunately, the fingers look very short (and glued together...) ... also the thumb has a big purple claw and the others.... don't, so it feels like maybe the fingers are digging into the horse's sides, made a bit worse by the internal POV.

I have now been doing this for 25 minutes, and my breakfast is cold.

Over all: You're not quite there yet. many of your pictures have been approved. they tend to be better in the ways those images weren't. Keep on improving.

end of the day, yeah, there's some personal preference in there, but you're a case on the border. keep improving. do better. Grow! <3

and if you want to know why a post was deleted, ask the person who deleted it, not hte forum, but you *can't* expect someone to take 30 minutes out of their day to critique a picture like I just did, lol. 1000 posts a day, man.

Now... to breakfast. yum yum...

I respectfully submit that you shouldn't expect that, though. It isn't admin's job to make you a better artist by critiquing you. That is strictly your job. Take classes, look at YouTube videos, find tutorials, and watch artists who stream their work process, but don't put the labor of your profession onto a bunch of volunteers on a random furry archive. That's not how aspiring professionals behave.

I'm not a "professional Artist", so it should be ok.
I have a long way to go.

Ah, that makes sense.

I've had a few files that fell under that, though I wasn't aware the were deemed so "poor", though I suppose he last one was unsettling.

(thanks for not starting yet another new thread about it <3 )

Lemme see...
post #1625429 post #1625431 - these two probably stumped us on "is this.... a person in armor or something non-human?" --that can also happen sometimes, though we're usually pretty good about Making Decisions on that.

post #1803323 - this one's a bit harder though -- the artist is clearly being adventurous and trying new things, which is to be applauded, but while some parts s are fantastic... the'res also a lot of "er... wait... " involved. The raichu's hands were the first thing I noticed. Those fingers are weird and uncomfortable. And the more I look, the more things leap out as weird. none of the muscles seem like they're in quite the right place, and if you look, the raichu's head is no where NEAR where it's neck should be, based off of the shoulder behind the white one's back. It's an ADVENTUROUS piece of artwork, and I LOVE that the artist had the balls to do such a COMPLICATED piece of work, and it DOES communicate itself well... Seriously, it's GOOD... but... I keep, like... . finding places that make me recoil. Like the girl's ass. and.. upper thigh... thing.. and how they meet. wut.

post #1630171 - i... i don't know, but I think it scares me too much to keep looking :c OKay, no, looking more... there's some weird qualities to the line art... it looks really rough: there are lots of places where the line over laps with another line in a bad way, , or where were are extra lines that should have been deleted. (the male's thigh is a good example of this. some lines are too long, some are too short, some curve weirdly.... ) the coloring feels sloppy too -- there are plenty of places where they've "colored outside the lines", and a LOT of places where there are stray white pixels from an apparent bucket-fill. There's also spots, like, the male's lower arm where it feels like the shading layer was accidentally moved or something. The artists is clearly skilled, but the coloring and line art feel surprisingly low effort. But the artist is clearly talented. BUT....

As you say: gray zone. :)

I hope someone will approve post #1821900 (about a half-day from being auto-deleted)(not uploaded by me)

It is of an anthro character (named Foofi)
and I think it seems to be of reasonable quality.

Apologies for posting this request.
I have free time and would love to someday be considered for being added to list of approvers.
