Project Sole Searching

Hi everyone! I would like to start a project to fix the barefoot tag. There are thousands of pictures with visibly bare feet that are not tagged as barefoot. With a large number of them being in the nude tag. In short, I would like some asistance in this mission. Thank you! (This is my first forum post, so sorry if this came off as too formal)

Would it be wise to add barefoot to nude tags? Seems a bit redundant if you asked me. You're better off doing solo anthro clothed -footwear -barefoot and then working your way to duo and group.

Updated by anonymous

On the other hand, for posts that aren't solos it's entirely possible that one can be nude but another character is clothed but barefoot.

But I imagine, without checking due to time constraints, that the project won't be small no matter how you slice it, so that's as good a starting point as any I guess.

I've been wanting to start cleaning up bow for ages now, so could I get some green light so I don't go about doing pointless work. There are (at least) three threads about this: forum #173300; forum #192857 and forum #186715 (duplicate). You can post there instead if you don't want to clutter up here (consider this a BUMP for all three).

I especially want to know if we want to use both *_ribbon and *_bow detail tags and what to do with implications and whatnot, and if bow_knot or bow_(knot) should be used (I guess the former for simplicity?), unless we want to use something obscure like double_slipped_reef_knot to avoid any and all confusion ;)

29. Been adding the spitroast tag to some images like post #643152
even though no oral penetration is taking place, but the general 'position' is still there

is there a better tag for scenes like those? (position, but only oral OR lower orifice penetration)

I recently set up a personal project to add spitroast to posts (sort of half the way through that one), and I was very hesitant to tag any posts not showing explicit oral_penetration (ignoring e.g. penis_lick and "impending sex"/after_sex) combined with anal/vaginal/ambiguous_penetration.

The reason is pretty much in the tags name, it suggests "spitroasting" i.e. like you would roast something by impaling it on a spit (too literal? ;P ), but as metaphorical in a specific sex position, and not just "double_penetration+ with oral". What I mean is just that if we dilute the tag we might as well change the name because it no longer reflects that. However, that said, I've even seen it used for cunnilingus by some people, so...

My thoughts are either to keep it clean and specific (i.e. penetration only) or change the name (i.e. at least add "_position") and widen the term (-1 from me). However I would not be against having the cake and eating it as well, i.e. introduce a term for the position (if not already present).

Why do I want to keep it as a very specific sex act and not general position?: oral_penetration hasn't yet been firmly enough established (it's just a bit too new in the making) hence the more "literal" definition of spitroast still serves a purpose. Besides oral_penetration can fail to detect spitroast even in simple threesomes due to e.g. reverse_spitroast and train_position.

Hm... I had a lot more to say than I imagined, could have made a new thread about this...

Updated by anonymous

I have been waiting on Para to continue with my ideas for *_bows, and how to change the tag so it can distinguish itself from bow_(*). I'd be still doing it, but I've withheld for now.

However, if no one has a problem with it: bow_(accessory). And, for the bows that apply just to clothing, or to make the human present, bowknot (currently bow_knot). Accessories, like headbands, non-jewelry, scarfs, etc., would also fall under this, because we do have an accessory tag, it just needs to be fleshed out. It's order would be *_bow -> bow_(accessory) -> accessory.

The *_ribbon is, however odd. I'd need to see what they mean, but it could also fit in accessory, I feel.

Any opinions?

do we need to add a few tags for weird ass nipples and/or breasts? cause it's fairly unnerving seeing breasts like that. it's almost as if their somehow eyes watching us...weird and creepy nips there! >.<

Kind of a rather abstract question, not directly related to tagging:

Are humanoids technically mammals?

I mean..they're human/human-like right?

After taking another look, was leaning more towards semi-anthro because of the appendages + face, but sure that works too

I feel like that would be a case by case thing, but since that has major flaws I'd personally say no in general.

Human-like is the problem. They might resemble humans very closely or be fairly remote from humans (and mammals). E.g. there's probably a few aliens and monster-like creatures in there that would maybe be hard to justify as being mammals.

Chessax said:

Yeah, exactly
I doubt we'd ever seriously consider all humanoids as mammals for tagging purposes, because it would break pretty much all the body types where those are concerned

Still, it's interesting to consider from a psycho-philosophical pov..for which the tag project thread probably isn't the best place to do that..

Anyway, could this be tagged with genital slit?

or rather, would it be out of place in a search result for genital_slit?

Wiki for genital_slit said:
On anatomically correct scalies and avians, this should normally replaced with a cloaca, which encompasses the anus as well, but many artists prefer to draw both orifices separated. Use this tag when it is the case.

I keep finding posts of reptiles/dinosaurs with visible penises and no anus tagged with cloaca,

should that be changed to/supplemented with genital_slit? (see wiki quote above)

@Furrin_Gok; @Chessax:

Hm, that's a good point
I think I'll make a separate forum topic about it after all, since the question does tie in with some oddities regarding some humanoid/human based-tags, which essentially extends to most other tags as well

(there'll be a better explanation in the dedicated topic if that didn't make any sense)

how did tagme go from ~150 to ~800 in two months?

Hard to keep up with it. Recently, some users have started tagging it for everything. Which isn't what it's for.

I went ahead and untagged it for all posts that already had plenty of tags. The remaining ones could use some work.

Updated by anonymous

At last, my 3 days are over, now I shall rise!
Really excited, I've made an account just to help out with tags and notes (seeing many poor posts lacking some needed love), but as daunting as these tasks might appear, I've already made plans which I'd start helping with.

  • tagme
  • tagging japanese_text and possibly other languages
  • tagging translation_request
    • And otherwise translate the Japanese when I can
  • perhaps editing the language wiki to remind users to tag a language if they know? That way, translators can find their respective languages easier, instead of sifting through translation_request. (I'll have to wait another 4 days to do that)
  • Update the Japanese onomatopoeia wiki pages (Again, must wait my 7 days)
    • There are two missing types, although many sites usually only list the three; Giyougo, which describes the way something moves or motion, form/looks ; and Gijougo, how someone feels, describing feeling/emotion
    • Of course, not many will know about these Japanese terms, and may not recognize to tag them. I'll do my best to tag them, although translating some of them can be very tricky. Would people like me to translate them, or leave them in Japanese?

I am also curious to know if people would like me to put on the furigana or small hiragana by the kanji, in the event they want to read it in Japanese but can't read the kanji. Or would that be too crowded with notes? Please let me know, everyone. :)

Oh, and another question, when I cannot find an appropriate tag to use, do I just tag it as it appears, PM an Admin/Mod, or go somewhere to create a tag? I've been searching the forums and wiki for help. (Tags in question are "open_mouth_smile" (bigger than a grin), "caress" (describing the way one gently holds/touches someone, such as their face), and "medium_shot" (not to be too technical, meaning only upper half of body is visible, sorry))

Real pleasure to get on board!

Try doing the work in a text document beforehand.

open_mouth_smile is already covered by open_smile. medium_shot is covered by half-length_portrait or bust_portrait.

caress apparently already exists.

Oh, aren't I a bright one. XD
Well, glad open_smile is a tag! I was searching the smile tags, but for some reason I could not find open_smile. (Although it's more obvious than open_mouth_smile. My mistake) Perhaps we should make it easier to find such tags.
In all honesty, the reason why I asked for these tags is because I failed at finding them in the search, and couldn't think of a synonym tag that'd fit. Maybe if there were like more tag categories? Tags under expressions, under acts, clothing, the likes. The tagging guide provides a few examples, but otherwise we are left to figure out whether tags exist.
Otherwise if that's something not feasible or needed, the wiki should most definitely contain the other examples (the "See also"). I should go through the tags and add them. (Though I believe there are more than a few thousand tags to look through)

Something I just realized now is that not all tags were appearing when I searching the tags because I was looking in the wrong tab: wikis. They didn't have a wiki, which is why I didn't find "caress" or "open_smile". That presents a new problem now, since that when searching for tags in the tag tab, it looks for an exact match (as far as I've seen). If it isn't exact, it won't appear. If it doesn't have a wiki page, it won't appear there either. And if it isn't in a "See also", how will they be found?
So, is there a way to find wiki-less tags?

I'll definitely be typing the wikis in a seperate document and then copy paste.
And once again another question, am I typing these things in the wrong forum thread? This is a tagging thread, but I'm also discussing about finding tags in the same post. Is this inappropriate, or is it relevant?

Thanks for your response!

That's one of the purposes of the wiki, but it's unfortunately not perfect as you have noticed. It's just hard work.

If you go to the wiki search page: https://e621.net/wiki?title=, then you can search using the wiki body, which can sometimes be useful.
Finding tags (and not just tags with wiki pages) can be done on the tag index page: https://e621.net/tag/index as you probably have tried, but while wiki searching uses implicit wildcards (can use explicit as well) the tag index requires explicit wildcards (*). E.g. "digital_*_(artwork)" will find everything starting with "digital_" and ending with "_(artwork)".

I imagine it is very hard work, typing enough to make a good page, and finding/putting in relevant tags. Imperfect as it is, it's still being made better by you awesome guys! (And looking around, I found what I was thinking about tag category: tag_group index, from color, clothes to anatomy.)

Very useful, thanks! Although it was present in the tagging basics, I'm not sure why I didn't attempt it. The ending portion is new to me. (I must've forgotten about it; I'll keep practicing)

When searching for tags, use the wild card character often. The wild card is your friend, and using it aggressively will find things other people miss. For example, I could use open*sm* to find open_smile or open_mouth_smile.

Use * everywhere, beginning, middle, and end, to get more results: https://e621.net/tag?name=*car*ss*&type=&order=count

This example shows how * can match zero or many characters: https://e621.net/tag?name=caress*&type=&order=count

Not true. If it does not have a wiki, the link will appear in red. I use this feature for my project to create a wiki page for all popular copyright tags: https://e621.net/tag?limit=50&name=&order=count&page=4&type=3

On that page of the tag search, FNAF4, Sailor Moon, Aftertale, 101 Dalmatians, and Mortal Kombat do not have wiki pages.

Whelp, guess I've been spending too much time on the wrong search bar! I didn't think that I could solely rely on the Tag search. (Silly me)
What I mean by not appearing is that when I use the Wiki search, it doesn't appear, at least for me. Probably because the Wiki search is only for existing Wikis.. Using the Tag search instead shows the tag, and the red link.

Thanks for introducing me to the asterisk, I shall befriend it well. You guys are saviors.

Many species tags with low post count

Apparently, there are >5000 tags with <10 post count

Not sure how many of them are actual species - fictional or not - and how many are typos (oriomote -> iriomote?)

Mentioning that in here for later, but if anyone else wants to take a look, feel free to make a separate forum topic for species tag cleanup in the meantime if one doesn't already exist

titanmelon said:

Oriomote is a typo as far as I can research. The Iriomote wiki needs an edit (it's listed "general") which I'll do, but it's tagged image also is incorrectly tagged as ocelot (which also needs a wiki? What constitutes a sufficient wiki?) Despite lack of images, there is a distinct difference; ocelots are considerably brighter and have starker markings (and usually wider, open eyes)

However, before I go fix that wiki, it'd be more accurate to call it the "Iriomote cat" (also known as "yamamayaa") as Iriomote is the name of the island it's found in.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iriomote_cat
Now, people may in fact find it easier to just search up "Iriomote", as inaccurate it is.
Edit: I just realized that the Iriomote tag might actually be referring to the island, as jima is a tag; Iriomote_Jima might've been intended, but they left out an underscore. It's tag what you see, but someone is bound to recognize the forest. Anyway, it's too hard to notice, and it's one tag.

Should I create a new tag? (Then there's the whole issue of making the "see also" and implications to feline...)

Updated by anonymous

BlueMoonstruckWolf said:

Yeah, that example was really confusing since there's so much going on

I would use iriomote_cat for the species, and alias yamamayaa to it, since we seem to prefer english tags where possible

As for the island, iriomote_(island) is an option, or just iriomote_island, but the latter implies a proper name somewhat

The tag will eventually have to be disambiguated anyway, so I don't see why a new tag for either would be a bad thing

it's tagged with anatomically correct pussy, but feline genitalia don't look like that

I'm thinking of adding canine_pussy and removing anatomically_correct*,

Unless someone has a reason why that shouldn't happen

Well, it looks felid, thus TWYS would apply and remove the anatomically_correct/+pussy tags. A revert back will need a reason (if it isn't actually entirely felid, and is something else)
I'm also considering adding canine_penis, or at least "knot", as it appears to be.

True, they would eventually. There's likely very few posts that will use "iriomote_cat/island" tags. Anyhoo,
"Iriomote_island" sounds good.
"Iriomote_cat/alias yamamayaa" is good, too.

It's rather difficult to say, considering the angle.
At first glance, it looks like she is literally at a 180 degree. However, because this is a low angle, it is dramatically heightened.
But since high kicks require high flexibility anyway, I don't see why it can't be tagged flexible.
(Is the limit by 'decent flexibility' or 'very flexible'?.)

Well then, taur and lamia tags probably should include more information so people (like me) don't mix them up. They make no reference to each other whatsoever. (Plus Taur just says lower body of a feral creature, not 'legged feral creature'.)

*looks through search results* "big_balls search results":e621.net/post/index/1/big_balls (ಠ_ಠ @ https:) o_O this is dumb...

all i wanted to do was confirm whether or not post #487618 should have this tag (fairly certain it gets the big_penis tag) but what i'm seeing in these results is any and everything from normal sized (relatively speaking since, well, that has to come into plat at some point regarding the characters overall body size...right?) to hyper having this tag.

then theres some like post #970597 which clearly shows a hyper_penis but also has the big_penis tag.

perhaps something that might clarify on this is having it mentioned somewhere on the wiki for these tags that the sizes in question are relative to the characters overall body size. and if possible, take into account species in some cases. (pretty sure a horse would have a human beat in both aspects easily.)

as for that first pic i linked. relative to his overall body size, his cock seems..."big" but not necessarily huge. likewise his balls are definitely above what would be considered "average" so maybe huge for those and big for the penis.

i know this might venture a bit into TWYK territory but i doubt it'd be the first time a compromise between that and TWYS was made.

seriously though, big_balls or huge_balls for this particular pic?

Updated by anonymous

treos said:

The "problems" with ball sizes is because of the (in my opinion) stupid implication chain that has been put in place. I.e. hyper_balls will add huge_balls which will add big_balls, hence hyper_balls gets automatically tagged with big_balls.

But definitely agree that any size term needs to be very clearly defined what they are to be used for, it's not enough to say "big_balls are used for big balls" in the wiki.

post #487618 is definitely big_penis and huge_balls.
post #970384 is as said clearly hyper.
post #970597 is definitely not big_penis, but either huge_penis or hyper_penis.

decided to take a look through the character tags on the ol' tag index just to see what might come up and came across this.

should chub_(disambiguation)) be a character tag? also, it's a 1 post tag.

some of these 1 post tags also have wiki pages with said wiki pages amounting to little more than "X character belongs to/created by Y owner/artist". a number of those could probably be replace by the usual _(artist/owner name) disambiguation. figured i'd check here first before changing any of those though. or maybe not since most of what i'm seeing is either potentially incorrect tag type or 1 post tags.

darkwing_wolfclaw :"His name is Darkwing Wolfclaw. He is big and tough and everyone wants to have sex with him. He also has superpowers and can do everything."

-_- so hes a generic character as well as a...what was the male name for a Mary Sue?

Add the 2016 tag to all the Pokemon that got announced this year. Because the posts can't possibly be older than that.

...once 2017 rolls around, those will have to be tagged the hard way.

Any ideas for a tag/tags which describes themes like this?

something about:

  • color themes
    • body color/pattern theme
      • species/breed
  • 'symmetric asymmetry'
    • [brown,black | black, brown]

----
my idea is color_connection, for at least one of those
maybe symmetric_asymmetry for the other, but I'm not expecting it to be too catchy early on

Another easy project:

anthro_on_anthro is almost up to 12000 posts already. But like the other *_on_* tags, it's supposed to only be tagged for sex...

Therefore, this needs work: anthro_on_anthro -sex -imminent_sex -after_sex. Some belong under tags such as romantic_couple instead, but most are simply missing the sex tags. So if anyone has time...

There should be no posts under this search: not_furry anthro. Could use some help with that.

Does flora fauna like post #1067533 count as furry or not furry? It's an anthropomorphic flower, so it technically counts for the anthro tag, but flowers aren't exactly animals.

That type of flora fauna are tagged as humanoid, since they're humanoidized plants. Anthro and humanoid are mutually exclusive categories.

As for not_furry, I'll need to double-check that to make sure. But personally, I'd consider them not_furry, same as humanoid mineral_fauna such as golems.

ratinglocked:false rating:explicit -date:year order:random breasts

What needs to be done: Check for misrated posts and add missing tags. Whole lot of those older posts are rated explicit when they should be only questionable. The rest are often missing explicit tags such as penis, pussy, sex, penetration, masturbation, cum, pussy_juice, etc. Which makes them hard to sort.

At the rate that I'm able to work on those, it'd take months to fully fix the ratings. And the sooner we get it done, the better.

Friendship is Magic characters missing crossgender as an intersex is easy. There is no canon character or species in the FiM universe that is a intersex, so either the intersex character is crossgender, or it isn't a FiM character; as fan_characters, alone or without canon characters, do not get that tag, they just get my_little_pony.

For references's sake: dickgirl, herm, cuntboy, and maleherm are intersexes. In case the image is just tagged intersex ( I.E. the alias from futanari), appropriately apply one of the listed.

thanks, once again, for making me ask "WTF?", japan. ಠ_ಠ

is there some way i can block this type of image (as in, japan's insect x human fetish) without blocking pokemon as well? since if i add insect to my blacklist i'll also be blocking any insect related pokemon posts as well.

i don't mind seeing insects in porn...if they happen to be anthros which to some extent, all pokemon count as. but i don't like seeing humans getting fucked by non-anthro insects like this or *shudder* giving birth to them. it's freaky and it grosses me out.

human_on_feral insect -pokemon

should do the trick.

unknown_artist hassource:true
arttags:0 hassource:true

Both of the above are either needing translations, their uploader did not tag the artist (I've had people add unknown_artist despite an English source), or whom's uploader tried tagging a new artist without adding the artist: prefix. Add translation_request (or should we make an artist_translation_request / source_translation_request?) if you couldn't translate and specify the request is the source, add the artist for the latter two.

unknown_artist -source_request hassource:false
arttags:0 -source_request hassource:false

Both of the above are missing source_request, which helps lead people into sourcing the image. Add the tag, and if you are willing to devote time try sourcing the image. http://iqdb.org & https://tineye.com are my two off-site sourcing tools. If you can't source it, at least others can try...

Do the parasprites count since they only need one to reproduce, or is that TWYK?

All intersex terms are based off visible genitals, not the biology term. If you can see at least a bulge and a cameltoe, it is a herm.

*edit, lazy finger* the prior term about intersex is because there is no rating:safe intersex, so if you can't see evidence of their intersex (can't see the pussy on a cuntboy), but couldn't see it to begin with (the image POV, they're clothed, etc.), you don't tag crossgender as it's a byproduct of our tagging standards.
