Hello,
I'm new here. I just tried to join the chat, but after entering everything it says Access granted, but nothing shows up on my discord account. Am I doing something wrong?

After you join, you need to wait. We go through and check each new member individually, usually within an hour(but give at least 24 hours) you will have access to the channels.
I recommend reading #welcome while you wait, it explains this.

The implication here may be that they never got the invite either, I think?

That's right. I got the message "Youhave been joined to the server." After that, I check on discord and nothing. I also tried restarting discord and it doesn't help.

Make sure that you are logged in to correct discord account on your browser.

I am sure.
Well, I have talked with my IT friend and he said that, since I'm living in a student dormitory, where everyone shares their IP and that it could have been blacklisted on a server, because somebody got banned.
Is this why I can't join?
And what can I do about it in this case?

I don't know if it's an option for you, but you could use a phone that uses 4G or LTE. The more bars the better.
Perhaps go to a local Starbucks or campus coffee shop if you have a laptop and try their Wifi connection.
Update your browser and try to join using Firefox and Chrome.

It could definitely be a reason why, one way round it could be to use a free vpn, otherwise it'd be what vex714 said, to get a different IP.
ProtonVPN (https://protonvpn.com/) and Hideme (https://hide.me/en/) are free and apparently take your privacy seriously.

Thanks for the help, I tried what you both said. But now it changed to a different message, saying:
"Forbidden
You don't have the permission to access the requested resource. It is either read-protected or not readable by the server."
I even tried connecting after arriving back home from my dormitory, and it still gives me the same message. I'm confused.

I could be wrong, but I think some VPN IPs might get blocked, did you try a few different VPN servers? Even connecting to a different one and connecting to the same one again should get you a different IP.

I don't think it helps, because I tried connecting from my home network earlier and by the the error message also changed from a false Granted Access to Forbidden.
Though I have 2 or 3 other networks I could try it too, but my friend told me my account could be blocked, if it's showing the same error on another network, which is why I'm confused, because I have only just joined a little while ago, tbh this is too frustrating.

It's possible to jump from one bad IP to another bad IP, so keep trying.

I have this same problem, which I believe is related to my posting on Discord while I was banned from e621 itself. Can admins/mods ban Discord users?
