Topic: Wiki Projects (Lost Tags / Request a Wiki)

Posted under General

so at the moment of posting male_penetrating_male is sitting at 68,641 tags... without a wiki. not sure how that happened but its a crazy example of what I'd like to call "Lost Tags". tags that are used but aren't well connected into the system, and without a wiki they become harder to find and integrate. there are a bunch more, next biggest are ~17,000 and ~15,000 tags on page 10 of most tagged and plenty others as you continue scrolling. they start to pop up more often after <750 tags though with pages of entries that have <30 tags showing a lot of red, uncreated wikis on each page. and that's just the ones with NO wiki, from what I can tell there are also plenty of tags with wikis that haven't been connected to anything, those are probably even harder to deal with.

a protocol for creating a tag might be good: make a wiki, make a see also section in that wiki, add a link for the new tag to other relevant wikis, add the tag to a pertinent tag group, ask for appropriate aliases/implications for the tag.

or bare bones auto generated wikis once a tag hits a threshold might be good, say 20-50 tags.

I guess what I'm getting at is just that its an issue I've come across and wanted a place to work on it. if there's a tag you'd like a wiki for that doesn't have one yet feel free to post it. I'm working on wiki connectivity anyways and wouldn't mind making ones for the tags people ask for first if there's interest.

groupings of tags

I can make the wikis for the various "penetrating" and "penetrated" tags, but that will have to wait for tomorrow.

ah cool! that's a pretty big one
https://e621.net/tag?limit=50&name=%2Apenet%2A&order=count&page=1&type=0

looks like yflash yoinked the "first" on male_p*_male though, was wondering who it was gonna be. seems like a thing with announcing possible corrections, people typically jump on the stuff you post

I'm on board with the idea of finding a group of tags to connect together and then going group to group though. It seems like a pretty good way of going about connecting stuff. Penetration was part of the update I was planning on doing for the character_relations tag group

https://e621.net/wiki/show/tag_group:character_relations
-family
-romantic
-big/small
-who's penetrating
-gender/gender
-predator/prey
-top/bottom
-dom/sub

tbh not really sure what to work on first, there's enough connecting to do in the wiki that getting everything all together will probably take a while.

No problem! I'm already working on reorganizing and adding tags to the associated tag_group:penetration_tags tag group page, then I'll move on to the rest of the "penetrating" and "penetrated" wikis.

I think I'm going to try to take a top down approach to this, starting from tag_group:index and working down to "capstone"(or umbrella or catch all) tags that are kind of the peak of a "web" of tags. makeup for example is kind of the capstone of it's web but isn't really connected to anything atm.

ex:
tag_group:index
v
Character Based:
---Character Attire/Appearance:
v
tag_group:clothes
v
clothing
v
underwear
v
panties
---
panties: https://e621.net/tag?name=*panties*&type=0&order=count
---

probably going with a tag_group first approach as well, trying to make good tag_group categories for each main category under the index before trying to link up capstone tags from most to least tagged.

like, makeup would also fit under
"Character Based:
---Character Attire/Appearance:"

but not sure what sub tag_group though. whatever it is, it should probably also encompass tag group:markings, fur, hair, skin... the body page looks promising... tag group:body_appearance, yep that'll do

sooooo

tag_group:index
v
Character Based:
---Character Attire/Appearance:
v
tag_group:body_appearance
v
body <---------------> -Body Related:
v

_
skin _ hair
fur _ makeup
feathers _ bodypaint
scales _ tattoo
-body color _ wet

instead of putting a section of relevant tags on each wiki connected to a tag_group probably better to just link to the tag_group. that way when the list gets updated it can just be done in the tag_group wiki instead of going through however many wikis for all the tags that are connected to it. I feel like that's the point of tag_groups in the first place, to be a localized repository instead of having a 200 tag "See also" on each wiki.

Is there a way to get wiki pages show a list of tag_group: -pages where they have been linked to. This would help people to be more familiar with the tag_group pages, as well as being more descriptive to some tag pages.

Yeah, I had thought the wiki pages were getting a bit long and wondered about slimming the wikis down. I'll probably go back through the longer wikis later and try to make them less lengthy, but for future descriptions I'll use the relevant "tag_group:" and only add in whatever closely related tags to the "See Also:" sections.

I think each wiki page will just have to be edited to have any related "tag_group:" added to the "See Also:" sections. But the currently existing "tag_group:" pages can be found by searching for *tag_group:* in the "Wiki" section of the site.

unless it's written into the site code at some point that's probably it. was thinking about adding a link to the index on larger wikis if/when this project gets far enough along, but yeah, having related groups linked on wikis might help users find other tags/groups they're interested in and promote the tag_groups

kk, if you want to go back through them cool but since they're in sections they're probably not hurting much. yesterday I just noticed theVileOne updated a bunch of the "tags about penetration" \

s in the wikis and thought "thaaat seems like a lot of work going forward..."

Yeah, I wondered about that "updating all the wiki pages after any kind of alteration to that group of tags" conundrum before. I've already had to do this for the "Tags About Hair" section several times before.

That coupled with the sheer lengthiness of the "Tags About Penetration" section got me rethinking my approach to linking the wiki pages.
