There were a number of things that were broken or not working well on the old site. There was a reason for the old search tag limits, for instance. Redoing the backend of the site was necessary if they wanted to fix deeply rooted issues like that and expand with newer and better features, and that necessitated redoing the frontend of the site too. Any launch of a new system to a wide and varied audience (talking about browsers that have to load and show pages, and people who interact with the pages) should be expected to be bumpy. Just (politely) report issues as you find them, and they'll get addressed after the more pressing problems are dealt with.
