Topic: Best way to download from redgif?

Posted under General

Redgif is basically the same as gfycat, shows some but not a lot of compression on videos. I can't find a clear cut answer but is there a way to download from redgif to get the best possible source if the artist only uploads to redgif and provides no other sources?

assuming you're referring to redgifs.com ?
i just opened a video page, clicked the quality option until it said HD, then rightclick → 'Save Video As…'
seemed to work fine

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same site, but gfycat and redgifs both utilize VP8 and pretty heavy compression on the videos, which is usually immidiately clear if you can compare that source to another direct file download many artists do.
That's why I made notes like seen with artist #24807

Pretty much this. Also the services should default to webm format.

However it does seem that if the artist uploads the video as .webm or as .mp4 into the service, they actually do not transcode those files. So with some artists who upload their work as MP4 there, you will have to manually get the MP4 version and manually convert it to WebM to get much higher quality output.
