Firstly, the iPhone dictionary and it's wikipedia page suggests that the proper name for the weapon is "bolas", it's both singular and plural. Secondly, this might cause conflict with the planeswalker Nicol_Bolas, because some people may add the two single words instead of using the underscore. Does anyone else think that disambiguation would be a good idea?

Probably a good idea, with the weapon as bolas_(weapon).

I don't believe I've ever seen a singular bola, only rendered as "bolas", given it means balls and there's always two or three. I can't really support this unless we get somebody with more linguistic knowledge, as to me this looks about the same as changing "pants" to "pant" because there's only one.

That sounds fine to me. However, I think bolas should be aliased to it, since most people probably know the weapon by that name instead, and that’ll make the correct tag easier to find. I very seriously doubt that we need to disambiguate this one just because it’s also the last name of a fairly obscure character. The chances of it ever being mistagged are very minimal.
