Was this always an Artist tag? I thought for sure it used to be a Meta tag. I don't want to change it in case there is a reason for this. Just seems odd.

The wiki page explains why it's an artist tag.
It's categorized like that to be more noticeable. Same thing with epilepsy_warning.

Also, people seem to use sound_warning incorrectly, on anything that has sound rather than something with unexpectedly loud sound, when just sound (which is Meta) would be appropriate.

I've had the same thought. Seems like some taggers use sound_warning as if they don't know that sound exists.

This bothered me a while ago and I wanted to tag it with my bot, so it'd be more accurate, but it was pretty awkward. I could measure the average db and then see how loud the peak db is compared to it, though I think that'd still end up with mistakes, getting how loud audio is seems to be hard to do programmatically.

People definitely do mistag it though, it's often on any post with audio, even if the audio's not loud.

Its not incorrect. The issue is the social context. As some people browse in spaces where sound would be inconvenient, notices on artwork or animations in earlier internet days would always be listed as Sound warning.

Theyre using the correct term in the context they were learned in and to be honest its probable the tags should be combined as theres no special need for it as it stands.

Even ignoring internet context in english this is just how it is. Otherwise it should be "loudness warning."

If that's the case, there's literally no difference between the sound and sound_warning tags, except one's further up on the list.

Thats correct. Meaning they should probably be combined.

After all. Why do we need a sound tag IF, a tag that exists only as a warning, does the exact same job, better
