Topic: What's a good price for this?

Posted under Art Talk

I wanted to try my hand at actually selling a commission.

It would look just like this:
https://static1.e621.net/data/fb/1c/fb1cdc56243729ceb6521a5b8605504b.jpg

^ That's a request I did for free btw

But I'm not sure if I can trust myself to actually rate the amount of money I should ask for. I want to give it an open number like.

Anywhere from 25 cents to a dollar. But idk what it's actually worth so I can make it cheap. I'm not looking to make a living here, just want to see if I can even do it.

Anyone care to estimate the amount of money I should ask for? Or if I should ask at all? >.< So far I've never asked for money before for anything I've done and I'm fine to continue that. I just want to see if anyone finds my art worth buying then I'm going back to free.

Dat orange dude's leg

Other than that, start off with $5. It's not too low and not too high.

Are you sure $5 isn't too much?

Well, for me, right at this moment, it is ._. damn currency conversions >_>

But no, as I said, that's pretty much how people price their commssions like these (flat colored)

I'd suggest you to check on other artists for a rough idea

You can always work on a "pay what you want" basis.
Set a minimum of like $1, and have people pay what they feel is the appropriate price for the finished product.
A lot of beginning artists do this, it provides a picture of what would be a good asking price, and can make you more money then setting flat prices since people might like what you did and pay a bit more.

5$ is nice to start indeed.
If you go by DA prices, you're going to undersell massively.

Seriously, I've seen people working for 50$/hour that weren't that great and they still had a lot of clients.

Gotta agree with Halite, Pay what you want would be the best option.

That's a good idea.

If you don't suggest going on DA to find people willing to buy a commission, where is a good place to put up a post about it?

I never thought it was right charging people money to put in the likeness of a copyrighted character but whatever.

Well, i would have suggested 5$. But since everyone else already have suggested that, I'm gonna say 4.99$

Well I think I'm gana stick with the "pick your price" option of a min $1, but where should I advertise this exactly?

I read the price with Billy Mays' voice

I pretty much agree with the above crowd. I wouldn't chock out more than ten bucks for a quick vector.

So no one has any recommendation as to where to advertise the commissions?

Well, you can always post to a tumblr and pay a few cents to advertisers like ProjectWonderful to get an ad out.

Well, on FA you will be ignored, on DA you will be ignored, on 4chan....never mind about 4chan. In a way, you're already advertising here and you've gotten some feedback

So basically. I'll be ignored everywhere. (Found that to be true on DA)

Do what every advertiser does.....keep advertising until someone checks out your stuff

Do what you've been doing as of late. Spread your name throughout sites, buy one of our advertising slots so you're link can appear under images and stuff, etc.

Create a Tumblr account, give it a name like "ask[Name]" and have it revolve around ponies.

You will get your basic package of 1,000 followers within 12 hours. :P

I got some friends that can help with the advertising. I got a friend who I make art for on youtube and his website gets about 50-100 views a day, he can help advertise. Also, speak to Kayso (or Komponi) (just search either one of those names on this site) and message him. He has a somewhat-popular YT channel. He is a brony, and his channel revolves around that concept.

I can also advertise on my FA account. It might not help much, but if you have a FurAffinity account, I can put a link to it on my page

I have a tumblr.

http://colgates-entertainment.tumblr.com

But within a couple weeks of getting it the way I want it, the characters set up and all that. I've got 8 followers. (9 if you count my friend but I don't count friends in my followers numbers)

(EDIT/Note: I only started uploading posts in the last few days)

Just for future reference I'm not up for paying for advertisements.. Sorry :P

at tumblr to gain more audience the trick is to tag your posts. its because people track tags and they will quite likely see your posts there. remember that the post will appear only in the 5 first tags added to the post so put important tags first. (also remember to tag stuff like gore and torture so people can blacklist them)

Try making some fanart for another blog, this should be the easiest way to get noticed.

See this is what I mean. I know this person is good. (Really like how fluttershy is drawn)But in less then 2 weeks they had like 300 followers.

I don't understand how people climb so fast to those numbers whal I'm still here at 9? What am I doing that keeps me here at 9 and they rocket to 300.

EDIT: Not 2 weeks, 2 DAYS they went up to 300.

EDIT2: I know talking about tumblr followers is a tiny bit off topic but still.
