The bulk update request #2581 has been rejected.

create alias vtuber (4974) -> virtual_youtuber (0)
create alias vtuber_persona (0) -> virtual_youtuber (0)

Reason: Redundant tags that mean the same thing. vtuber even states it on its wiki, saying virtual_youtuber should be tagged instead.

This has been suggested a few times recently, most recent was topic #33730 in which there seemed to be a lot more support for vtuber as the tag for the rest to be aliased to.

the problem with all these burs is that the alias needs to be flipped around to virtual_youtuber -> vtuber since nobody calls korone or ivycomb "virtual youtubers"

plus while the "tuber" suffex is kinda a misnomer, (since not every vtuber is on youtube) it's still a pretty widely accepted suffex to describe online personalities. whereas calling them "virtual youtubers" would be like calling pngtubers "Portable Network Graphics Youtubers": it's not only tacky, but it makes the misnomer way more apperant

I'm not even sure the tag should exist. It's like having an actor, streamer, or comedian tag. It's just a job description, not worthy of a tag.

Even though the vtuber tag says to use virtual YouTuber and virtual_youtuber is the most populated? Other boorus I notice use virtual_youtuber for their tag.

I think if we have tags like video games and stuff it's worthy enough. It's a medium of entertainment.

Just because other boorus have a specific wording for a tag doesn't mean e6 has to follow suit. Especially since e6 actually puts in effort towards maintaining aliases and implications.

Also there has been a serious effort to remove video_games or at least redefine it to only apply when you can actually see video game elements, consoles, and/or accessories. See topic #29801.

Regardless of if the "tuber" part came from "Youtube", Vtuber/Vtubing are used as a generic terms for a streamer/streaming while using a virtual avatar, similar to how "podcast" originally came from "iPod Broadcast" but has long since been completely disassociated from iPods. Anecdotally speaking, "Virtual Youtuber" is rarely used beyond "outsider" writers describing the concept to an uninitiated audience (say, an article on a tech site covering the phenomenon - even then, it's usually only brought up to describe what "Vtuber" is a portmanteau of), "Vtuber" is broadly understood, is the popular terminology, and is the term used officially by Hololive, Nijisanji and VShojo.

In terms of tags, it's less wordy, and makes the misnomer/inaccuracy less apparent.

Anyone can edit the tag wiki, to be blunt, it doesn't matter which term some random user, acting completely alone, prefers to use, especially if it doesn't make sense to the community or logical sense to use their tag over the other.
