Topic: Penalization for replacement

Posted under General

Hey, there.

I've just seen that a pic i uploaded got replaced with a higher version (which isnt the problem).
The problem I have with that is, that the artist himself gave me the image to upload. And thats why i didnt really thought of checking for a higher resolution.

In general i feel like replacements shouldnt really be penalized but thats not my decision to make (neither is, if the penalty is valid or not, i just wanted to clear this out).

PS: I might sound pissed but note that im not

Replacements are penalized if the superior version was available at the time of upload. In this specific case, it is understandable that you thought the artist provided one was the best one, but we have to follow the guidelines. I would recommend talking to them about it in order to prevent this situation from repeating itself.

Replacements do have the option to not negativly impact your upload limit, yes. But checking that for every replacement that is coming in is simply not feasible for janitors. Add to that that we don't yet have official guidelines on how to actually handle this.

This isn't a problem though, since not doing anything is still the same as having your post deleted, so nothing really changed. There are just more options on how to potentially handle things, but until we have concrete guidelines to follow, having your upload limit impacted like it does with normal deletions is something that will keep happening.
