Should mechanophilia and plushophilia imply objectophilia? This implication would be technically true- plushies and vehicles are objects- however, these categories are much, much larger than 'objectophilia' and would make finding stuff that's not vehicles or plushies difficult.

There's also an issue of definition. Mechano/plushophilia still include things like pinups and objects with genitals. Should these terms be restricted to sex acts, or be open to any sexualized subjects?

Mechanophilia also includes anthropomorphic robots that might not fit with what people searching 'objectophilia' are looking for.

Never heard of "objectophilia", but it's an interesting concept. In real life, plushophilia is clearly a type of objectophilia, but for the purposes of tagging, I'm not sure. Plushophilia very often gets tagged for living_plushies, and if a plushie is living, it's not exactly an inanimate object anymore. I guess it comes down to the definitions of plushophilia and objectophilia for tagging. One lacks a wiki, and the other has a wiki that's not very helpful...

animate_inanimate and inanimate_object a species tag that makes that distinction between living objects and non-living ones. I do think objectophilia is too broad and plushophilia is specific and popular enough for people to be searching for that specifically to warrant it's own tag. plushophilia shouldn't imply objectophilia because it would conflict with posts that do have animate_inanimate (iirc it was previously senitent_plushie?)

My opinion is that objecto would still apply to animate_inanimate, and a significant portion of the handful of posts currently tagged objectophilia are animate_inanimates. (If you want an analogy, it's like how bestiality includes sapient and toony ferals) The point of it would be to lump sex acts with (non-sex toy) objects together under one umbrella term for searching and blacklisting ease. I'm just wondering if plushies and vehicles are common enough that, despite being technically correct, would make searching for/blacklisting stuff that wasn't those worse.
Also the tag for living plushies is living_plushie.

So, all of animate_inanimate sex is objectophilia, as well as any grinding on objects for masturbation*? This sounds way too broad to be very useful. You should probably just search things like animate_inanimate sex or grinding masturbation.

* EDIT: I realized I should probably elaborate on this. You said "sex acts with (non-sex toy) objects", but it's far from clear how to distinguish "sex act with an object" from "masturbation with an improvised sex toy" in a TWYS compatible way.

Objectophilia sounds too broad to be useful on its own. Using a dildo or penetrable_sex_toy could count as objectophilia, as they're objects being used for sexual gratification. And there are cases where they're being used sensually:

so I don't think restricting the tag from applying to certain objects like that should count (especially when you get into improvised_sex_toys). Having it be applicable only some times would be a problem as everyone would have their own different standard for when it should apply.

I think there'd need to be some discussion when it comes to object heads, anthro robots, and humanoids in animate_inanimate, but broadly, yeah. The line between it and improvised_sex_toy also needs to be figured out. I don't think this is impossible to do.

I do though think it's worthwhile since a) animate_inanimate leaves out stuff that's just a regular inanimate object (and this is currently difficult to find) and b) "how do I blacklist THIS?" is a common comment on this subject.
