Topic: I want to become an artist so I can ignite Overweight Male x Female content

Posted under Art Talk

Full disclaimer, I’m a Bisexual and love male and female anthros of all shapes and sizes ❤️. However, it does sadden me a bit when most of the overweight male characters I see, especially overweight young male characters, are often paired up with mostly other males and rarely if not never with a female partner. Now I’ll still dig those sorts of art and won’t stop appreciating them, but at times it makes me feel like overweight male character aren’t appreciated in MxF scenarios and are often shoehorned in the “gay category”. I notice the disparity too often to the point I feel overwhelmed and question my sexuality due to being overweight myself and sometimes connecting with some of the overweight male characters; until I calm myself down and go back to looking at some nice furry titties which makes me go “Yeah I still love women haha”. This almost makes me want to become an artist myself so I can happily create the content that’s pretty niche to my knowledge. Maybe it won’t get enough attention, but it’ll make happy knowing there’s such content that exists and that other folks can possibly dig it. I’ll probably consider getting a digital art tablet, I don’t necessarily have a computer (more so a gaming pc handheld), but I definitely would love to practice someday. It’s as they say, “Be the change you want to see”.

There's no need to wait for a tablet- just buy a sketchbook, grab a pencil, and go ham. Even if your goal is digital, the great thing about practicing on paper is that the skill transfers over pretty well.

No need for a sketchbook even. If you have any blank paper lying around, like for your printer, you're good to go.

But yeah, if you're interested, definitely start now OP.

In fact, I'd suggest not getting a tablet until you've gotten some practice in with plain, old (and cheaper) paper and pencil. Your initial attempts won't look the greatest, but the only way to fix that is practice, practice, practice. Keep at it, and you'll find that tablet to be a lot better investment than if you started with it.

There are various kinds of guides in the how-to tag

https://drawabox.com

Drawabox is a set of free exercise-based lessons that focus on the fundamentals - the skills you'll need to make sense of all the other resources and tutorials out there. First we focus on the basic mechanics of mark making, and how to use your arm. By the end, we develop a strong understanding of form, 3D space and construction.

I appreciate the motivations y’all have giving me. Only instance I’ve drawn was mainly out of boredom, and I mainly used tons of references and simple standard shapes/basic tracing on certain areas. I would like to commission someone to make a ref of an OC I have in mind so I can get a better understanding on how to do overweight male characters while pairing them with female characters of varying sizes. I’ll probably consider using my days off to practice drawing on paper, hopefully I don’t hyper focus on the size of the paper when it comes to drawing as I usually feel bigger canvases helps to draw out the details.

Good. Never be afraid to use references when you need them. However, it's best to eyeball them when drawing instead of tracing so you can better understand the structure of what you draw and adapt it for different positions you might not have exact references for.

Gopher it. Remember, don't get discouraged if things don't quite look as good as you'd like at first. Here's a favorite quote of mine from an animation legend:

If/when you make the jump to tablet, don't feel pressured to break the bank with Wacom stuff - XP-Pen is so much cheaper and just as good.
