Topic: Clarity around 'public' and related tags.

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Looking to see what other's opinions are on settings, situations, locations, etc. that on the more vague side of being described as public.

Examples
  • office
    • While I feel an open office with cubicles is obviously a public area and a home office is obviously not, I'm not sure about more private, single room / private offices such as the Hokage's office from Naruto.
    • Is a conference room public?
  • forest
    • A road, path, or trail through a forest seems to be fairly public, but what about a secluded pond or stream hidden by bushes or an open field surrounded by a forest.
  • locker room
    • I can see a public gym's locker room being described as public, but what about a school locker room?
  • bathroom / public restroom
  • storage room
    • Is a gym or school storage room considered a public place?
  • aircraft
    • Are flying aircraft still considered public?
    • Is nudity on an airliner considered public nudity?
    • Does the size and/or purpose of the aircraft matter? Such as an airliner vs small helicopter used for transportation.
  • beach
    • What are your indicators as to whether a beach is public or not?
  • private booths
  • hospital room
    • Is a hospital room public?
    • Does it matter if it's a shared room or single person (private) room?
  • cave / tunnel
    • Are caves and tunnels public places?

These are just some of the ones that pop in my head. I'm sure others may have other situations in mind.

Not necessarily looking to change any wiki definitions. Just figured it my be a good idea to have place to discuss this topic and get an idea of what other's thoughts and opinions are.

Updated

There's a reason no setting implies public, because it depends on the circumstances. If the space is reasonably accessible to an arbitrary individual, or there are many people, then it is public.

If the setting is a generic [insert setting here], with no other twys elements indicating otherwise, then you have to consider whether that generic [setting] would be considered public or private.
