The tag alias #75297 blue_(pokemon) -> gary_oak has been rejected.

Reason: These characters are visually identical, and identical in nearly every other respect as well. gary_oak has slightly more tagged posts at time of writing and is the more recognizable form of the character, so I am aliasing to that, but I would be open to arguments for a reverse alias.

these are literally diffrent characters from different universes. they just look similar sometimes.

One is simply the adaptation version of the other. We don't have separate tags for Hilbert and Black.

Red looks different from Ash. Blue does not look different from Gary; case in point.

characters looking the same shouldn't matter, timmy_nook and tommy_nook look the same too, we're not going to alias them together.

I think the main difference there is that the game protags kind of aren't real characters and therefore their differences to the manga characters are kinda unimportant. Blue both isn't a protag and he went on to feature in several other games.

but on the other hand, Gary and Blue are entirely different characters with entirely different arcs, both in the pieces of media in which they're important characters, and the franchise onward when they make cameos. Gary's a lame idiot who I don't think even got to the Elite Four, while Blue became champion and then took over the Viridian City Gym and went on with Red to be two of the most well-known trainers in the world.
