Another case against digital only media
Sigh... all this does is discourage legitimate purchases and hurt authors. Nobody wants to buy a book that they have to jump through hoops to even read.

TBF, there's still the PC version 2.4 (which they go out of way to force updates on) workaround, but being able to just back them up directly was nice.
The really ridiculous thing is there's never been a time where it was easier to do accurate photo-to-text conversions of screenshots. It's obvious about lock-in, not piracy.

Mom's eInk heh
I already had my books saved and exported as soon as I got them.
Purchase should mean ownership
What’s happening is more of a lease or renting of a product
And this is why I prefer actual paper copies of books, because you don't have to download them or otherwise use an electronic device to read them.
Yeah, I'm old. :P
My personal formats of choice are the lossless DRM free digital ones: comics in .png, albums in .flac, and so on.

One of my Mom's books was just a bunch of JPEG files, so I just made a big ZIP file of them with filenames in same order as pages, then renamed it .CBZ. ;)
