What do you need a proxy for?

Are you at school, work, church or something?
Usually if there is a block for a porn site at a particular location, it's wise not to try and circumvent it, just wait until you get to a place that's more appropriate for your furry porn.

Why would a church have internet?

As ex church tech staff, I can tell you many reasons- online broadcast, networking between churches, and presentation software downloading. (Led light controls, movie editing, projected notes/verses, etc.

Why would a church have technology? :I
Don't they think those things are from the devil and such?
Also, where do they get all of that money?

I think I might be going near a dangerous line... if I am, tell me...

agnostic, I could care less about lines. xD

Tech is incredibly useful for church; even small church plants can stream sermons online and reach globally (my church of 20 had 10 regular viewers as far afield as Cambodia), projectors help display song lyrics and sermon notes, concert lighting helps set the mood for the music, etc. The money comes from those magical weekly buckets for bigger churches, smaller ones (like my old one) get money from big church-run orgs. As far as evil technology, you're thinking the Amish lol. Religious people can be, like anyone else, irritating at times, but still normal.

I see no good reason to use a proxy. If you are at work, work and don't look at porn, if you are a ban evader, stahp

There are many times where the workplace (be it a school, campus, or similar) blocks many things that are even remotely questionable are blocked. Obviously, looking at porn while at work is a whole new can of worms, but when you're on break or otherwise don't have a task, I'd say fuck it and use a proxy. Or figure out a higher clearance proxy server number your LAN uses, but even then it usually only gives a bit more access at best.

Tell that to the countries that block wide swathes of the 'net. Though it's not likely that that's the case here.

Break or no break, I'm pretty sure it can wait.

Doesn't really matter, the admin can see pm's too, they just usually don't have a reason to snoop

Discussion without flaming is good, if off-topic. Just please be careful about this, there is a closed can of worms that is right at your feet.

Admins can only see pm's that have been reported or sent to/from admins

Good thing I stopped asking, then. It's just the thought that some entities get stuff for doing nothing while others get nothing for doing stuff that bugs me...

Also, I don't plan looking at worms today :P

and I think I got a bit near it...

Well it's the internet, people open this can all the time so don't feel bad. I can see the joke you meant where some religious groups say computers (actually everything) is the devil and how absurd that is and why it's funny

Generally speaking, circumventing security measures should lead to disciplinary action.

I still side with user awareness and personal responsibility most of the time, though. Your best bet is probably Tor if you want to anonymize your Internet traffic or Tails (follow same link) if you need to bypass the operating system too. You can run either from a USB drive. If you just don't want your browser to save your history, you can enter a private mode with Ctrl + Shift + P, but that won't protect you from monitoring.
