So I've really been digging these four. I was curious and puzzled about how they're related though. (For the record I'm aware of the 'tag what you see' policy, but I wish to look beyond that.)

It's pretty obvious that Shadow and Yamato are fathers to Max and Ryusei respectively. But several posts tag the latter two as brothers? I'm guessing then that Shad and Yamato knocked up the same woman, making Ryusei and Max half-brothers technically.

Something else though: they all look way too alike (in my eyes at least) to be born by two non-blood related men and one mother. So are the fathers brothers to one another? Did they knock up their sister or something?..

My point/question is: I are cunfuse. Can anyone elaborate upon the story behind these four, if backstory exists? At any rate, thanks.

This is a picture of me, Shadow, and our oldest and identical twins, Ryusei and Maximillian. Ryu, being a couple minutes older and therefore the "oldest", has a bit of an obsession of being like dad. That's why he's bigger than his more laid-back brother Max, who tends to be like but is less intentionally like the boy's mom, Shadow. They're both sweet kids though, if as naughty as their parents.

So they're all brothers? Guess the 'tag what you see' thing is what threw me off in the first place. Anyway, thanks! I should really look at the source more often...

Shadow was temporarily female and (s)he gave birth to the twins.
