Topic: shiny pokemon aka pokemon palette swaps

Posted under Art Talk

i was just reading some stuff on the Palette Swap page of tvtropes and it surprises me that shiny pokemon still go unmentioned despite being the very definition of that trope.

i mean, anyone with eyes could tell this to be true.

normal unbreon - black fur with yellow markings
shiny umbreon - black fur with blue markings

that's a palette swap. the whole "different stats" for each version only furthers this because guess what, in ever RPG game that has ever used palette swaps like that, the alternate colored versions pretty much always have altered stats.

sorry but this has bothered me ever since gamefreak started that whole "shiny pokemon" thing in the games. shiny, palette swap, recolor, take you're pick. they're all the same thing pretty much. congrats shiny pokemon, you're the one set of palette swaps not considered to be what you are.

now, i do like some of the recolors but that's about all i ever consider them to be, recolored/palette swapped pokemon.

It's also interesting how much of a collector's item they have become. Some people are just crazy of shinies.

While many of the shiny versions of Pokémon are nice, I doubt its worth those hours spent just trying to catch one.

Perhaps you can compare them with money: They're as valuable as we make them.

I always considered them nothing more than pallet swaps myself, although usually very good ones.
