You didnt do anything wrong. I dont really get foot fetishes either, but it wasnt crude, nor demeaning, nor even creepy.

It was a compliment directed at the artist for one aspect of their art you liked. Totally cool. You could have said the same comment to your mother and it probably would have gone by without overt comment.
