The story takes place like 30 years after her death, pay attention to the images. She was brutally murdered and desecrated, she had her eyes cut out, was brutally stabbed 37 times and had her throat slit while having her maimed body left in her home in a huge puddle of her own blood. She was an honor role student in the 80s, this takes place in modern times and the boyfriend looks mid 20s.

I don't think it stains. I'm inclined to believe it's purely visual. I don't think spirits leave any type of residue.
