Why is this even a question? You trip o er your shorts you fall in head first and the shorts slip off your feet via physics in water. The real question is not where or who or why but rather why would you even care enough to spoil a story?

and if enough builds up (which will never happen in a pool), that chemical is explosive!

You almost got it right. The chlorine salts that are commonly used in swimming pools are naturally scentless and a totally clean pool would smell like nothing at all, regardless of chlorination status. There stereotypical pool smell comes from the product of ammonia in urine and hypochloric (mono/di-chloride) acids. This chemical, formally known as nitrogen trichloride or trichloramine is responsible for the smell of any pool you swim in and also for your relative shortness of breath after swimming for an extended period of time.
