'Spark of Summer'
Moira Baccharin was introduced in book 3 of my Legend of Ahya series and has quickly become the fandom darling. She was a captured and experimented on pangolin that has a power to explosively charge her scales, where she can rip them off her body and throw them at opponents with devastating effect. This is painful for her, but the scales do eventually grow back over time.
She is young, but very naive - trying to believe the best in people. She grew up in a household where her father was abusive and her mother tried to get them both out. Due to a horrible accident in the process, her mother died and the local government sent her right back to her awful father as caretaker. She was abused more and then dumped into an orphanage where the Arbiter bought her up and gave her the powers she has through the experiments.
She now is adopted by the former chief of police of Zabokar alongside Achenar Debuine. She loves them both like real family. His rigid structure, firm boundaries and rules had the opposite effect with her and she ended up being something of a rebel as she grew older into a fine young adult. Her values and dedication to her newfound family has never wavered though.
