Stocky describes characters who have broad, "solidly built" frames, a character with a "wide body", thick arms and legs, they are often short in stature. "Stocky" can describe a range of varied, but similar figures: a stocky character may be muscular, but usually will not have extremely defined muscles; a stocky character may be chubby or overweight, but most of their body fat will be in their chest, midsection, thighs and butt, they will not have rolls of fat - obese characters should not be tagged as stocky.
While it may often cross over with musclegut this tag should not be used merely as a synonym, a stocky character does not have to have any muscular definition.
Criteria
A stocky figure will have a combination of bodily attributes bellow:
- A key feature is a broad upper body, particularly around the waist/midsection
- female characters will still have curves, possibly wide hips, but overall "thick" abdomen - never a small waist
- Fat is often limited to the belly or torso - characters having a "beer gut" or "potbelly
- Oftentimes muscular definition on the torso (pecs, abs) is frequently less "defined", more subtle and/or mixed with fat, more defined on arms
- Thick arms, if not muscular
- Sometimes Short, with squat proportions
- Big Chest - a naturally large ribcage
- Broad Shoulders
- Thick Neck
