The Villager is the player character in the Animal Crossing game series, and the only human that appears in-game. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, this character is elected mayor of the village as well. "Villager" is only a generic description, the player chooses their character's name when first starting a save file in Animal Crossing - however, "Villager" is used as the the character's official name in the Super Smash Bros. games.

For tagging purposes, any unnamed human that is clearly intended to resemble a player character from Animal Crossing should be tagged as "villager", but this tag should not be applied to any "normal looking" human interacting with Animal Crossing characters (unless they are heavily styled after the generic designs). Villager characters will have large, simplified toony eyes, button or triangular noses, squat proportions, and ball-like hands, (in fan art, these features may be changed or omitted depending on the artists' style).

As a custom character, the Villager can vary wildly in appearance, however, the "generic villager" designs that often appears in fan art (also used in Super Smash Bros.) are a male in shorts and a red t-shirt, with spiky brown hair, or a female in a red dress, with short pink hair; both villagers are fair skinned and have a distinctive red, triangular nose.
